    which depth of carbon clincher rim to choose for cross racing ?

    i want to use the 80mm deep rims
    simply because they make the bike look fast when it is parked .(ha)

    or i think the bike looks cool / fast..anyways

    buying rim set so bike looks fast riding on the trailer.
    is wrong reason to buy rims.i know

    funny question,
    but just wondering if there was a give and take
    best balance of rim depth for cross racing.

    i see many people are using 29'er wheel sets too.

    is this the new norm ?

    don't want to try tubulars

    i will stick with clinchers .

    For racing I would take a basic set of aluminum wheels with tubulars over the most expensive set of carbon wheels with clinchers.
    "Do not touch the trim"

    i was reading where deeper rims outperform shallow
    in deep wet grass and mud.

    ever heard this ?

    i forgot to ask. are more riders using 29'er rim sets or 700c rim sets ?

    I think the main reason folks are using 29er rims is for the tubeless compatibility, coupled with the wider rim / tire bed, not to mention you can buy whole 29er wheelsets that are disc compatible and ready to go (assuming you're new-skool running discs on your CX bike).

    Reasons for that are wanting to run tubeless rather than sewups / tubular tires (they're easier to change, less expensive and less hassle).

    Anywhere between 35-50mm seems to be the standard rim depth I've seen in CX racing around here (carbon, alloy, whatever). I don't know if there's a "standard" other than the balance of stiffness vs. cost vs. performance though.

    the reasons to go tubular over tubeless: you already have a nice set of carbon tubs because you road race (me + my husband) or you are old-skool and prefer the ride over tubeless.

    frankly if I had to do it all over again and didn't already have a CX bike ordered / shipping with both a carbon tubular and alloy tubeless-ready wheelset? I'd run straight tubeless and be done with it. 27 years of bike racing and I'm so totally over gluing tires and stripping rims 2-3x / year.

    i contacted deng fu

    and discovered they do not offer 29er tubeless carbon wheel sets.

    where is everyone getting their carbon 29er tubeless wheel sets.

    this is to use on my new china carbon cross project
