    CX course flyovers?

Who has a flyover on their CX course? This is from the Idaho State championships. I'm just bragging cause it is really cool. One of the guys on my team designed and built this. It will also be used for Knobby Tires mountain bike race series in the spring.

the Bay Area Super Prestige has what they call the "bridge of sighs." they only had it up for the past 2 races and it'll probably make an appearance at the last race this weekend.

they are definitely cool and are great for the spectators while also allowing the course to double back on itself. newbs not familiar with the feature will always have problems with them though....even experienced riders. i've seen more than a few racers completely case it coming down the ramp.

    I wish I had that...

My local race is on a motocross course, though. Which is fun too.

    Two questions:

What's the point? Why not use the natural hills there?

Why is the down side so difficult?

Not trying to be negative, just curious.

That down side is actually the up side! Those are stairs!

We had a similar flyover at USGP louisville and my friends and I were joking about them using it backwards and the humungous injury toll it would take. Some people would crash down it, some would trip and fall, slip and roll etc... Lol, dark humor I guess.

The stairs make a transition. For a lot of races we just run a ramp both sides. Our cx courses are all in parks so there aren't significant hills. For the most part, it is just an interest point. However, I have made a few passes on it so I suspect some people slow down for it.

Loved the inclusion of the flyover at Idaho States this weekend. It was my first time on said flyover, and I had a bit of discomfort with the narrowness of the stair tread on my practice laps and the first race lap, but I got used to it enough that I didn't really notice on subsequent laps. It was a fun feature, and hope flyovers become a more common feature at Boise races (like the Velopark races!)

They are a nice way to get a "figure 8" out of your course and flip directions... or for other course needs. They are great addition, one day we will have one...
