    CX 1 by....

    Hi all,
I am sure there are other threads on this, but I wanted to take a quick poll on front chainring sizes for CX when running a 1x10 or 11.

Please comment back and list different sizes if you would use a "nice conditions size" and "muddy size".

    Thanks!

42t seems to be the most common size. I have run 42t-46t and I personally prefer 44t.

    36T

I can spin 30mph on the road with 36X11. I don't think I've ever had to pedal that fast in a 'cross race. I wonder if guys with 44T have ever wished they had more gear? I know that I've wanted more gear than 36X28 -- some of the cross races in this area are on the same courses as XC mountain bike races.

Food for thought: If I were going to get another chainring I would also need to get another bashguard. With that in mind, rather than buy a ring from amazon and a BBG bashguard I would be interested in a chainring/bashguard combo.

I run a 34t bling ring on my cross bike but I don't race and mostly ride single track with it.

39t, just using the inner ring (Rotor Q ring) on a normal 53/39 130 BCD Rival crankset with 180mm arms.

42 Front with a 12-28 rear. I race at the front of master A men and have never needed more or less.

Thanks for the input....we did the 40 and 42 first partly based on all your input. We will follow in a couple weeks with the 38 and 44: Products | wolftoothcomponents.com

Trying a 1x9 tomorrow. 12-27 rear, 38 front. Would have preferred a 36t but no one had one available on a Saturday...

Worked well, never had a chance to get above 25kph all day and did lots of running.
For racing, I think it's about right for me. For trail riding, an 11-32 rear would match up well with the 38 front.
