Avid Shorty 6 brakes interfering with CF fork

I'm trying to mount my old Avid Shorty 6 brakes on a new Carver carbon fiber fork on my cross bike. As you can see from the photos, the brake pads extend too far rearward and don't open enough to provide any real travel. It seems I have two options: 1) get shorts brake pads and holders (don't know if these even exist), or 2) buy different brakes that have the brake pads mounted further forward. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try using road-style brake pads, they're shorter. Or, you could turn those around so the long end points forward. You're supposed to run them the way you have them, but it never makes any difference for me...

Try to flip the pads first and tell us what happens!
