No I upgraded the wheels to WTB Laser Disc hubs and Stans Flow rims. I still have the stock wheels that came with the bike, they are redline single speed hubs laced to laser disc rims.

    Finally got the parts on...

Haven't tested it beyond riding around the neighborhood with my 6 y/o (he's now off training wheels).

Also waiting on the local trails to dry out.

Reba Race with remote (very cool!), Avid BB7s, and Chris King headset.

I tried breaking in the new disc brakes by riding up and down a very long hill, dragging the brakes as I rode downhill, but ended up wearing myself out. However, they're squealing just a little when riding around the neighborhood. Need to work more on that (and my fitness level).

I think the suspension forks ruins the sanctity of what the Monocog is.

Well Ive been lurking for a while. Reading, looking and finally bought a 29er of the Redline flavor. Im just getting into mtb'ing although I was an avid BMX racing and freestyler back in the day. Oh well nothing fancy or top of the line but I love it. Still adjusting things, stock except for BB5's.

Sadly my local trails ar still too wet to ride.

So my 1980's BMX build Monocog has only seen street duty.

But my Conquest has seen a good work out on the doubletrack.

Upgrades include Thomson stem and post, SINZ headset, WTB saddle and new bar tape.

stock cranks are RPM... if you look on the inside of the crank arm... just has redlines name on it... would venture to guess by looking at the syncros stem it's the same case

    noted all

thanks for the suggestions. i will try a smaller front sprocket for now. i really dont want to stray from the single ring up front if i dont have to.

i am sure as the year rolls on i will be putting that 34t back on, but for right now, i could have carried so much more speed if i could have climbed those hills rather chugging them on the first lap and then walking them on the next.

The brakes are way too nice for the Cog. The cog is blue collar bike, it's not meant to have jewelry like that. You should switch them out with BB7's and save them for an exotic build. (or use them on a cog flight)

thanks man, it rides quite nicely as well. I still need to get the disk mounting tabs faced, as well as order some ODI Rogue grips and some sort of a bar end cap to replace the outer grip clamp (think like the Transition units, or something from Sunline or Straitline)

CupofJava, what can I say, I like to spoil my bikes with a bit of bling every now and then. that, and after a few months of riding a squishy 26er with very nice hydraulic disks, I don't want to demote myself back to cable actuated disks on this bike. the bling is nice, but the power is nicer

WOW, Slyp--Nice brakes! They make my Cog's brakes (see above) look a bit, I don't know...elementary. How do you like the Crank Brother's peds? I was looking into those. Do you intend on hitting some serious rough and steep terrain....(the peds and brakes make me think so)?

Nice bike Long Haul Trucker, you're making me jealous with your Black 26" Monocog.

I'm overdue in posting pictures of my Redline. It's an '08 d440 but I like to tinker with my bikes so not much of the bike is still stock. Here are a few pics behind my house.

The bike has been great and I've put a lot of miles on it this winter but with summer around the corner I won't be able to ride as much. I did a 28 mile ride on Sunday and the 95 degrees was a harbinger of things to come.

Thanx Yeti!!! It's been good to me for years. Since getting the d440,it doesn't get near as much dirt, mostly road miles to build some lugs/legs (the road I ride is one big hill till the middle, then back down,so when I'm coming back, just as much uphill ). It amazes me,how the granny recently installed on the d440 has already spoiled the crap outta me,and that-even w/ that 100mm Fox up front-the Monocog beats the crap outta me,more than the rigid 29er

    it takes two to tango...

here are my two redline flights. 17" and 15" sizes. I just got the used stock 15" and keeping it as a SS. The 17" is now converted to a 27-speed and the 15" now as the new Reba fork.

I use the 27-spd for commuting and long rides. The SS is for most local trail rides and the one I like the most.

I will post new pics when I have a chance.

Here's my Redline Monocog 29er. I've only had it for a couple of weeks, it was an ebay find. I just installed the disk brakes this weekend. Total invested, around $350. Rides great, I love it.

...sweet looking ride stevie ... there where a few spots on my last ride just like that... good old rain... on the plus side it meant that most of the sandy portions of the trails where nice and packed in which made for a real good ride

    Here's my latest MC Build

I wasn't happy with my previous rigid SS 29er (I won't name the brand). So I stripped the goodies off it, picked up a couple new parts, purchased this new frameset, and slapped it together. This one isn't light (31lbs as pictured) , but man is it a fun bike to ride. I think this bike will stay in my stable for years to come.

    Build:
    08 MC Frame & Fork
Kris Holm's wearing Rampages/ Bonty Bolt-on SS Rear Hub & Deore QR Front Hub
    Cane Creek 110 Headset
(1 off) Prototype Gold Anno Cane Creek Levers
    Avid BB7's / Jagwire Ripcords / G2 Rotors
Titec H-bar with ESI Chunky Grips
    Easton Stem
    Thomson seatpost
    Salsa Liplock Clamp
    WTB Race V
    Race Face Evolve SS Crankset
    Surly 20T Cog
    KMC Z610 Chain

sweet bike! I found out that I could actually enjoy riding single speed on my redline monocog flight 29er. I wound up having to use a headlock on mine because I couldn't keep the headset tight. I changed the generic plastic crap headset to an S3 and it still came loose all the time. The headlock fixed it though. I think the problem is the steel steerer is too smooth and hard for the star nut to bite. Now you gotta go ride with me sometime.

    Blinged up my Monocog

I few more updates on the Monocog!

Have converted the 717's to tubeless and swopped to Conti Speed Kings, very light and fast but a bit of a battle to seal!

Also have put on an old set of Hope Mini's, replaced the cheapo seatpost with a raceface and swopped over to a rigid front end. The seat is a Ti railed Flite, used to belong to a sadly departed friend, he loved riding fixed on the road so I think he would like it's use on this bike.

The fork is an Exotic, but the Alloy one, 265 AtoC, I liked the handling with the suspension forks and this gives pretty much the same feel. Probably need to swop the bars for something a bit more forgiving now.

In the second picture it now has Deore Cranks as I like Hollowtech 11 and already had the suitable tool, the flat pedals will be replaced by SPD's soon, trying to ride out a gammy knee at the moment before an event next weekend (not on the Monocog)

It's a long time since I have ridden fully rigid but enjoyed every minute of the first ride, the ride was quick and the tubeless conversion has allowed some decent tyre cush.

    And during the first ride

Here's my Monocog Flight 29er - bought it bone-stock; I've since added the Reba, XTR pedals, Surly 34T ring and 20T cog, and ODI lock-ons. This is my first singlespeed - my full suspension 26er has gathered a lot of dust in the 8 or 9 months that I've had it.

Dig the discarded tire by the trail on 2nd photo… East TN decoration…

so how do you feel about the steering w/ that fork?

i've got an O7 flight w/ a reba sl set at 80mm on it, but the steering has never felt quite right to me...i guess it's always gonna carve better w/ the rigid steel fork on it but i couldn't deal w/ the fully rigid feel. i've been screwing around w/ the air pressure but the front wheel tends to push in turns when i'm leaning it overl

i've been thinking about putting a 470mm carbon rigid on it to see how that would ride also i guess if i put a bigger tire up front that might track better.

    Handling on the Flight...

I've got the same flight and I added a Fox F29 100 with the increased offset (46mm I believe) and it handled beautifully!

I can't recall - but doesn't that Reba have less offset than the newer one with red graphics? I think that one has 43mm and the Flight is designed for 47mm of offset.

    The Green Machine

I present the Green Machine... Here's a late night garage picture after I took it out on the trails this morning and on the limestone trail with the wife later in the evening.

I got the frameset from a buddy for a steal, then proceeded to cannibalize my 2004 Monocog rebuild project in order to get this thing rolling sooner than later. Now I've got three Redlines in the house!

Here is my 07 Monocog Flight. Just picked it up Friday off of craigslist... and I'm loving it. M-520's and shoes are in the mail.. and new grips will be ordered soon. Other than that, I plan on leaving it as it is

A quick pictorial update on mine. The bike doubles as my putt-arond-the-neighborhood-with-the-kids bike as well, hence the seat on the back.

Current specs are: Reba Race w/remote lockout, Shimano clipless, Avid BB7 w/Avid levers, Chris King headset, and a Bell child seat. And before anyone asks, YES the seat comes off when I hit the trails. The rack the seat mounts to is a bit on the heavy side, but that just makes for a better workout.

My $150 craigslist find, a 2006 Monocog 29er. I found this bike on craigslist for $400 which included a Reba suspension fork. I sold the fork on ebay for 250 (someone got a great deal on it!) and voila... $150 29er! Sure its not pretty, but I ride the crap out of this thing. It came with the bb5's, the only thing I replaced were the grips, chain, and rear cog (16t).
