I got rid of my San Andreas a couple years ago that I wish I never did.

And came across this bad boy a couple months ago and I couldn't pass it up.

Then spent the last couple days refinishing the frame/swingarm and now I think its looks so much better. Man... I love this bike!

    Looking for some insight
Recently had a distant family member pass away and I am helping sell off his stuff. Seeing if anyone could tell me the name of this bike or its worth.

It's a pretty early Shockwave. You would get more for it if you part it out. If you don't get more answers here go to my FB group and ask. But please always use MTBR for all your other MTB needs.

I've seen a shot posted of your San An posted before Donny as I remember asking about those forks and I got to tell you that yours is among my favorite rides, very well conceived and executed build

Scored this one off an Ebayer in California, and had it shipped back to Melbourne, Australia.
The listing stated immaculate condition and the seller was true to his word. This thing is like showroom new; not one scratch.
I've always wanted one of these things in my earlier years, so I'm stoked to be able to call this one mine.

    Cheers.
I'm finding there's a very small, niggling play in there somewhere, maybe the subframe?
Just need to iron out any issues like that before taking it on any decent ride.

Hi Shawn, could you elaborate on this? Really not clued in on MC ownership just yet. :)

Your shock has bushings pressed into the two shock eyes or mount holes. Then there are reducers in those bushings. Those can be pulled out by hand. The reducers are how shocks are fitted to different frames. The reducers and/or bushings can become worn and then you develop some play. Also the mounting bolts can become worn or bent a little and cause some play. I would change the two mount bolts first. Take them down to a hardware store and match them up. Get the best grade that they have, they are pretty inexpensive. If that doesn't fix it take a look at the reducers, they can become worn or ovalized. You can get these on Ebay, if you know what size you need. If that doesn't work then go to the bushings. They will have to be sent out to be pressed out and new ones pressed in. If you have to change them, I would look for a new or a good used shock. There are much better shocks out there compared to those old Stratos shocks.

Another thing, be really careful with those double clamp forks. It only takes a slight fall for the forks to push the sides of the main frame in. I had to learn that the hard way, and it's not a good feeling when it happens. If it were me, I would put a 6.5" x 1.5" shock on it. That will give you 4.5" of travel. Then I would put a 120 to 130mm fork on it. Anymore travel then that and the bottom bracket gets to high, the seat gets to high and the wheelbase shortens up and it becomes hard to ride. The San Andreas was originally designed for even less travel then what I suggested. It just doesn't work very well with long travel. And it will end up being a lot lighter.

One more thing: You'll want to buy a grease injector. Its a thing that screws to the top of a tube of grease. It has a sharp end where the grease comes out and a plunger to push the grease. You can take one of the black caps off off the main pivot shaft and stick the injector in and inject grease in till it starts coming out of the pivot. I would do that before you ride it. It looks like it really hasn't been used and it could be kinda dry.

No, actualy. With citizen shoes around town some potential but with spd's never a problem. Was worried but lucked out on the build.

My FRumble. Needed to replace my fork and was sick of dealing with the maintenance and cost. So I found a compromise!

It's not a shock but it does smooth out all the trail chatter and is cushy for landing

Thanks! This week I dialed it in by putting on a 80mm stem instead of the 50mm and I got a 2.6" wide tire in the rear.

My battery, as built, and a more recent shot.

Changes from original build: rotors (swapped the air rotors for xt), dropper seat post and the levers, cos I busted them against a tree.

Gone are the Ashima AirRotors (in favor of XT RT76) and the Cane Creek levers (busted against a tree so I now have Avid Dial 7). Moved to a dropper seat post, too.

With that number and upper shock mount type, it's probably more like 2000 to 2002.
