Hope everyone weathered the early winter storm safely. Looks like with the current forecast, we should be back to decent fall riding conditions by the weekend (assuming no more snow or rain).
The Huntington Event with REI Norwalk, was a great success in terms of turn out and getting 3/4 of a mile of beginner trail with a few technical features built! REI was very happy with the event and we're looking forward to doing more with them in the Spring. A big thanks to our members and REI for getting dirty and supporting Huntington State Park.
Our regular weekly rides are officially done for the season as the days are too short to get out and back safely before it gets dark. We are planning a couple weekend rides for November so come on out if you can:
+ Friday 11/11 Veterans Day ride at Miller's Pond State Park, 9:30am in Durham - Millers is a great place to take your technical riding skills to the next level, there's tons of challenging rock, log rides, skinnies, drops, and berms to push yourself on. There will be a fair amount of "stop & play" so no one will get dropped. Light armor is recommended and we ask that you wear blaze orange since its hunting season. Likely a 3-4 hour tour with several drop points; water and snacks are a must.
If we have sufficient numbers we will have both a faster paced XC group and a Stuntery/Play group. Intermediate and up.
Miller's Pond is in Durham, CT - lot is off of Foothills Rd just south of Haddam Quarter Rd, west side of street.
+ Saturday 11/19 Benett's Pond ride at Bennetts Pond State Park, 9:30am in Ridgefield - This will be an beg/intermediate ride with a focus on introducing riders to a great, yet little known, park. No one gets dropped.
Bennet's Pond is in Ridgefield, CT the lot is on Bennetts Farm Rd off of RT 7 near the BMW Dealership.
+ Friday 11/25 Turkey Burner Ride at Mianus River Park 10am in Stamford - Skip Black Friday shopping and hassles and join us for ~2 hours as we ride Mianus River Park in Stamford. This will be a great all levels of riders to spend the morning on the bike burning off Thanksgiving supper.
Meet at the Red Barn on Merriebrook Lane in Stamford.
We'll be helping the Friends of Mianus River Park with their monthly trail maintenance session on Nov 5th, meeting on the Stamford side at 8:45am. There will be a general trail maintenance session for Nov 12th at Troutbrook and a trail re-build/re-route at Wilton Woods on Dec.10th.
Stay tuned to the website, twitter, and Facebook for further TM & ride info.
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Trails!
