Just got one this week; one ride so far.
Some initial impressions -
- Very easy to initiate, one press and then you can let go and push down. No need to hold the lever through the push.
- I'm stoked on the trail lever. I really like the ability to press the second lever and be instantly in trail mode without interrupting my cadence.
- Remote isn't nearly the boondogle I thought it would be. I'm running a front shifter, so the remote is above the bar, and I have no problem activating either lever without having to move my hand. Most importantly, I can hit either one while braking comfortably.
- Cable routing is a non-issue so far. Cable growth is directed downward and rearward, no issues with clearance or hitting my leg.
- Remote on the bar is ugly. No getting around it. Thankfully it's robust. I don't feel worried about storing the bike upside down.
- There is about 1mm between the saddles top out position and it's resting position when seated. When I stand up the seat comes up 1 mm, and goes down 1 mm when I sit back on it. I haven't noticed any rattling when riding it.
- No torsional play.
So far I'm happy. I wanted something mechanical to reduce failure risks as well as having the ability to lock the post into any position manually in case anything does go wrong (imaging a post blowing someplace like the beginning of the Whole Enchilada). I also wanted something with some kind of pre-set trail mode. It was between this and a Command Post Blacklite; the trail mode lever, 2 bolt head and Fox's customer service/proximity to me pushed me to the DOSS. We'll see how it holds up in the long run.

Hey guys...been riding my DOSS on my '13 santa cruz nomad carbon...love the seat post. Solid construction, remote is a little big but for how well built the post is...it makes up for the slightly larger remote.
My DOSS is coming in tomorrow vis UPS, f'n stoked. I live in mountainous townships here in WV and this DOSS is gonna look sick cutting through yards on the daily and me from self-castration.

im going on my 2nd return of a kronolog post , been given the opprotunity to replace it with the fox doss.... that lever looks huge in the pics , anyone try both and have any comments on whether i want to take my 3rd Kronolog or try the fox. bike is a tallboy LT
Try the Fox, the lever is pretty big (think gear shifter paddle), but the DOSS works.

The D.O.S.S. ROCKS! I always choose functionality first. Mountain biking shouldn't be a beauty contest. Don't get me wrong, I love the way my bike looks but that's secondary at best. My bike has to be dependable out in the middle of nowhere. I might try the Thompson when it comes out but I will definitely keep the Fox on my 29er as a backup.

November 10, 2012 update:
It is very sad to say but DOSS is not yet suitable for Pacific North West. This is a heartfelt conclusion as I really like the post.
Here is why. After I changed cable and housing (see update below), I went for 3 rides in really really wet conditions, the way it rains on North Shore, 50-70mm in one day.
After these three rides lever actuation became very very hard. It seems that the housing gets contaminated quickly and it is not feasible to change cable and housing after 3 eight k rides. Every time it is a $12 expense.
My last attempt to alleviate this problem is installing Jagwire ferrule on the post that has a thin extension that prevents contamination. I also installed a piece of inner tube to cover the actuation mechanism on the seatpost hoping that it will deflect wet debris.
I will post one last update after 3 rides or so.
I hope FOX engineers will address this issue as the only good time to use the post is during a very short dry window here in the Pacific North West. This is a sad conclusion for me as I do want to believe in this product. The post itself works very very well....
Oct 28, 2012 update:
After about 15 rides in dry weather, it started raining heavily on North Shore. On my first ride in heavy rain I started feeling that I needed excessive pressure on the lever, especially when I wanted to lower the seat (not so much when I wanted to raise it). I changed the cable only, the problem persisted. I coped with the problem for 5 more rides. Big mistake! I changed cable and housing today. Actuation became very smooth.
I need to find out how long this smooth actuation will be there before the problem reappears.
Now that we are in the wet season and I have no idea about longevity of actuation mechanism in wet conditions. The design is such that water can easily enter the housing, that worries me a bit.
How often do I change cable and housing riding in wet conditions? We shall see...
Conclusion one: In dry weather, the post worked flawlessly.
Since there is no long term DOSS testing info online I decided to keep the riding log where I start using BRAND NEW FOX DOSS post
Trail: Bridal path on North Shore with some deviations. Length circa 8.500m. Elevation change 114m
Average use of the post lever per ride 20+. Mileage is totaled with each entry. Rider's weight 240lb (too much)
After Aug 16 I logged 15 rides in dry conditions, no problem.
Today (beginning of October) however it was poring rain. 2/3 in the same ride the remote lever started feeling very heavy and required a lot of force when trying to raise the post from the lowest position. Moving into/from other positions felt normal as usual.
I also noticed that the bracket on the seatpost that functions as a stop against which the post lever moves was a bit wobbly. Not sure if this is a problem. Remote lever has no problem and functions as usual.
Contamination of the post lever by dirt?
Remote lever adjustment problem?
I will see next ride if the same behavior persists.

Seal your ferules, lube your line, clean your post. If you stop to check your lines, you have time to wipe off water. I dont normally ride in the rain, its too cold here, but I dont mind when the grass is wet and occosional 'fender' type of ride would be cool. I'd take out the line, lube it up, reinstall, put wax or melt some rubber around the housing to keep it water tight. It's an air loaded post, it'll move just keep your lever in all weather condition!!
Use the whole Jagwire Ripcord kit, not just the ferrules. The cable is teflon coated and doesn't corrode like a normal cable, and the ferrules have seals on them. I run them for several YEARS between changes.
I might be getting one soon. Lbs have a crazy deal for a DOSS waiting for me. Hope i won't regret it.
Fox dropped the prices. My buddy just got one at Universal Cycles for $277 using their 15% web coupon.
One more observation about DOSS
My initial impressions were also stellar! It is the wet weather that gives me a bit of grief. Also I noticed the following:
I clamp the post in the same spot all the time and one day it would not return UP from the trail position. I followed troubleshooting instructions to no avail. Then for the heck of it I clamped the post at a DIFFERENT height at a DIFFERENT angle. The post returns perfectly!
Is it possible that clamping in the same spot induces some sort of internals fatigue over time?
Fox: pls make the actuation lever shielded, sealed, like Gravity Dropper or LEV or something like that. Seal it at the lever as well so it does not function as a funnel direting water in the housing. I had 3 rides in wet conditions with Jagwire ferrule and so far so good.
Planning to replace the stock cable and housing with Jagwire once i get my hands on one, should i get a Brake or Gear cable set for it?

About Jagwire hermetic sealing, i don't think it is possible. How will you pinch the wire at the seatpost, through the ripcord inner plastic housing? I don't think it will work for a number of reasons. Am I wrong? Will "Gore ride on" work?
Huh? I don't see why it wouldn't work. They're just like normal cable/housing in design, just different materials and seals in the ferrules.

I read a label on a box the other day that said, "Top Left/Bottom Right Lever". Until then I hadn't seen anything about specific remote versions mentioned like you get with a Reverb.

I think the price coming down is positive proof that these manufacturers charge what they think they can get for bicycle items. The Doss wasn't selling well so they dropped the price.

I completely disagree. There's plenty of competition out there - At least 4 brands making them. But the R&D put into something like this is insane. They're more complex even than suspension forks because everything has to fit into a tiny seat post!
