I have been commuting on my IRO Mark V fixed but am thinking of getting a Surly 1x1 for the winter. I already have mtb disc wheelset and wheels but would need to buy the other components. I'm thinking the surly will be a bit more comfortable and better for riding in cold rain and slush. If it is snowing heavy i will probably not ride tho.
God knows I dont "need" another bike but i sure do want one!

Everyone needs another bike. But seriously, couldn't you just get a flip-flop hub for your IRO?

Fixed works really well in the winter. The IRO will be fine. It will take a beating. Make sure it's framesavered.
