    I Quit Commuting!

Yep, after starting 32 years ago and bike commuting of and on until last July I decided to quit cycling to work. It was not a decision I took lightly by I honestly had had enough. Since I stopped riding to work I have been much happier and I think also much healthier. I sleep better and have more time to enjoy spending time with my wife and to mountain bike. I still ride but now it's for recreation or to do the odd errand around town. Yup, I retired from the RCAF (1st 9 in the Army, Infantry) after 38 years. Good luck to all the bike commuters out there and stay safe.
I got some bad ideas in my head.

Impressive! How many of those years were in Edmonton? And I think you'd mentioned Winnipeg too?

8 years in Edmonton and 10 years in Winnipeg. I was in Winnipeg 3 times so not all in one stretch. I never rode through a whole winter but did do a fair bit in the cold. I new a young fella in Winnipeg who did ride all winter. One morning after a Blizzard he rode to work but no one else had made it.

You make it sound so final. It's not like you can't hop on a bike on a nice summer day and ride to work. That said, lifestyles change and what made sense for 32 years might not make sense now. I had a 10 year break where I didn't ride at all. Have fun with your rec riding.

Cheers to you- that is one heck of a bike commuting run!

    Some serious cold weather too

I live where there's not snow all that often and managed 125 commutes to work (of 253 rides including weekly urban assault rides plus dirt and rocks as often as my schedule allows) so far this year.

even if it's the nicest day, I can't imagine it's worth getting a job for

Congrats on the retirement, and enjoy riding during the day when there's less traffic!
Yeah I only carry cans cause I'm a weight weenie.

I have been thinking about getting a part time job and would ride my bike to work if I do. I won't work just as an excuse to bike commute though.
