So student driver doesn't watch where he's going, and his mother doesn't correct his errors, so they hit a pole and roll over, and some poor dude is just pedaling along is guilty of "distracting" the driver?
The ridiculousness of cycling clothes increase exponentially in relation to the distance from your bicycle.

Is this a time for a colorful metaphor? Sounds like he missed the cyclist. Or maybe injured cyclists don't merit a mention? 'Crash', is his new nickname.

    This part really gets me:
    >" ...when the boy looked at someone riding a bike to his right and began to drift that way."<
So, he saw the cyclist and moved TOWARDS him? Then the cyclist somehow was no longer part of the story, and the car went belly up on somebody`s lawn? Can`t make that stuff up! I have to wonder how they explained that one to Dad!

    EDIT:

Yeah, no mention of what happened to the cyclist? Didn`t even say whether or not he had his helmet on. The reporter must have forgotten that golden rule for articles on any incedent vaguely involving one or more bicycles.
    Recalculating....

Distracted or not, HOW does one flip a car like that? Sounds like student driver needed a little more instruction, though at least he missed the biker.

^ Hopping the curb and slamming the pole then full-lock a bit too late should do it. Though I'd not like to have to reproduce it for a movie.

Police trin so they don't steer where they are looking. Drunks hit emergency vehicles lit up like Christmas trees because they steer towards what they look at. He must have almost snapped his neck to look in order to move the wheel hard enough to the right to jump a curb. Bounce off the curb is bad enough. To jump it? That's extreme.

I wonder if it was a really cute girl who rode on afterwards. You know, oblivious to all the noise of the collision behind her because of ear buds and tunes. Leaving a path of destruction in her wake. Of course in this day and age, we need to allow that the driver may like guys.
