“My son wants to know, when can he walk to his friend’s house?” said Ms. Landers, who suffered a fractured elbow in 2009 after being struck by a turning vehicle. “I don’t know how to teach my 9-year-old to cross the street.”

Maybe an entourage including an astrologer, traffic engineer, and a Psychiatrist would help/ Sounds like a Saturday night skit, to me.

Rarely, here in the U.S., have I witnessed a taxi being piloted by anyone with professional/safe driving habits.

I would amend that to be "rarely, anywhere, have I witnessed a taxi being piloted by anyone with professional/safe driving habits."

I have ridden in a few that put the worst American taxi driver I've witnessed to shame.

with that said, I'm not surprised. School bus drivers aren't any better.

Google is failing me right now, but I once saw an infographic from Toronto that broke down common cyclist collisions into categories like:

    Right Hook
    Left Turn
    Hit from Behind
    Taxi

Because saying "Taxi" is all the explanation that's needed.

My personal list of worst/scariest taxi drivers.

    1. Donghae, South Korea
    2. Naples, Italy
    3. Busan, South Korea
    4. Rhodes, Greece
    5. Gdansk, Poland

    List of best/safe taxi drivers.

    1. Munich, Germany
    2. Osaka, Japan
    3. Oslo, Norway
    4. Aarhus, Denmark
    5. Singapore and Dubai, UAE are a tie...

Granted, this is my list compiled from riding IN the cab. Not my experience on a bike dealing with these taxis...

On a bike, I've had equally terrible experiences almost everywhere. Some of the worst here in San Diego! But I think that is a function of the fact that I've done more commuting here than anywhere else...

Oddly, while riding in a cab was absolutely heart attack inducing in Naples, Italy, they were very bicycle friendly.

Watching traffic in Korea, I din't dare ride my bike. Traffic laws seemed to merely be suggestions which were mostly ignored...

I wish. I'm in the Navy and have been lucky enough to always have a place on my ships to store my bike...

Go to Italy. Sicilian taxicabs are lunatics.
