Laziness. Reminds me of Nashville. The Shelby Street Bridge goes from downtown Nashville to the Titan's Stadium across the river. Its a pedestrian and bicycle bridge. It's a pretty steep climb to get up the bridge from street level. I'm huffing and puffing forcing my heavy bike share bike up the bridge only to see people getting out of an elevator with their bikes.
I wouldn't use it, but if it gets more people riding I'd tolerate it.
On the other hand, "It supports inclines of up to 18 percent grade and can extend as long as 1,640 feet." Couldn't you just get off the bike and walk a quarter of a mile? If my math is right, the lift will propel you up the hill at a whopping 4.5 miles per hour.
On the other other hand, if somebody set up a hamburger stand at the bottom, I could eat on the way up.
you know what....my cousin a few years ago made arm that attached to a bike fork and then to his gas powered scooter. Just have a few kids with those things tow you up the hills for a couple of quarters.
