on our way to Fort Collins - want to camp in UT or Western Slope

Making the pilgrimage from Truckee / Tahoe to Fort Collins and would love some information if anyone has any for where to camp in either SLC area or beyond from hwy80.

2 cars, a dog, and 9 bikes / other wordly possessions have me thinking a quick night in the middle of nowhere might be best. . .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you turn south at Evanstown WY, the High Untas Wilderness is south of I-80, Mirror Lake Secnic byway takes you over 11,000ft there is camping by the roadside on the way up. I-80 is fairly barren and sage brushy, got to get off the I-80 corridor to get to some of the beauty spots along the way. Flamming Gorge is also nice. Depending on how far you go, just past Laramie is Happy Jack, or you could turn and go down the Poudre into Ft Collins from the Walden,Co side of Cammeron Pass, lots of great spots in North Prk, or all the way down the Poudre river.

like sbsbiker said, not much camping along I-80. Best bet would be in the area just east of Park City, I'd think (I don't know of any, but it's still mountains and federal land). After that, it becomes a long lonely road with nothing pleasant.

Middle of nowhere? Pretty much any exit between Evanston and Rock Springs will put you there.

Hell - any exit between Evanston and Laramie save Green River and Rock Springs will put you there.
