    New Bookcliffs Trail?

Anyone know what the new trail being built this spring up 18 road (Bookcliffs) is going to be all about?

Almost looks like the trail rides up Frontside out of Coal Gulch Road to the top of the Bookcliffs, then runs along the ridge to the top of the steep climb out of Coal Gulch Road at the east end to rejoin the Edge Loop.

yeah, it's sarlacc, or as we call it, high times, or peek-a-boo (or tweaker-boo, cause it was sort of originally built by crazy doug who named it peek-a-boo). it's 8 miles of super sweet fun singletrack, from the overlook to coal gulch road.

That looks like a really cool trail but the seasonal closure dates kinda sucks. If they could open this up for the FTF that would be great but it wont open until May 1st. Did anybody get to ride this before it closed in Dec?

there is a good chance (not definate) it will be open for the fat tire festival. yes, some people (not naming names) have ridden it before it was open, and it is super fun. you can do it as an out and back, or a shuttle or part of a giant loop.

It's a great new route. This was put in by BLM via a motorized trail grant. Late in the year there was a multi-group effort to get things finalized as well as possible before the winter, and COPMOBA and moto group volunteers worked together to finish all of the formal tread and work on some drainage aspects. It is as noted above - uses the Frontside climb (which will be ATV accessible), and then is singletrack going eastward until it reconnects with Coal Gulch Rd. There is now a new monster well-pad at that upper connection point, which is an easy point of reference. In any case, it's a great ride - I did an up and back to check on the trail work on what turned out to be the last ridable day - snow flurries were flying as I finished. It may be open in time for the Fat Tire Fest this year, we'll see if we can get a workday up there prior to that. It's generally north aspect, so dries out later.

It'll transform the Edge Loop by replacing several miles of Coal Gulch dirt road climb with miles of singletrack - makes for an excellent larger loop. And it's a good stand alone trail on its own.

I'm confused, both ends are accessed via coal gulch? This description seems to suggest that......

"The Sarlacc can be enjoyed from West to East or from East to West. The Western end of the Sarlacc Trail involves a steep, doubletrack road that will be a 30-45 minute climb [snip] The Eastern start of the trail begins near a well pad."

Or it starts somewhere on front side and goes up and over to reconnect with coal gulch? Scott's description mentions accessing it via Frontside? Starts at west end of Frontside maybe?

"It is as noted above - uses the Frontside climb (which will be ATV accessible) and then is singletrack going eastward until it reconnects with Coal Gulch Rd."

The maps posted on the other page didn't clear it up for me.
