There is still 2-4 feet of snow in the trees near marshall pass above 10,500-11,000 feet depending on aspect.

Yeah, there's still plenty of snow up there.

Thanks. They need to start to put some dates on when the 'Last Checked' date was on those postings.

    How is CB doing?

    Well, OK.

But here's the thing--unless we are having a ridiculously dry drought year, Crest == Fourth of July. If you are going to live in Colorado and you like riding the crest, just store that in your brain.

Even last year when we were having a ridiculous drought year, the melt-off up there was only about 10 days early.

Thanks. Date is recorded. Having never ridden it, I wasnt sure when a normal open date would be for that. We are going to go on a Southwest CO MTB trip and wanted to try and hit MC on the way back to Boulder. Looks like later in the summer for that one.

Salida people wind up doing two diatribes when the subject of the Monarch Crest comes up prior to mid-June:

    1) the one I already subjected you to, about how it's a July-September thing, and

    2) THERE'S LOTS OF GOOD RIDING HERE THAT ISN'T THE MONARCH CREST!

You could easily hit Salida for some great rides on your way back. It's just not time to ride at 12,000 feet yet, but there is a ton of good singletrack around here that's below 10,000 feet, most of which has been quite dry and lovely for a month. Some has been dry and lovely since March.

It's a common thing with folks visiting the rural parts of CO--Salida has more than the Monarch Crest, Durango has more than Hermosa Creek, Aspen has more than the Government Trail, CB has more than 401.

    Etc.

    Off my soapbox now.

lower elevation trails good to go, no high elevation rides yet like 401/403, ect. Shouldn't even think about those until late June/early July.

I'm stoked to ride the Crest too, but give it another month and have patience people.

those are just the trails that we funnel the front rangers onto to leave the better rides to the locals

Many Front Range riders are more wily than you think.
