A ??? for The Grand Valley Folks

I just scored a second hand (95%) set of Schwalbe Big Bettys for super cheap. My question centers around durability. Since the Grand Valley riders have the most abusive trail surfaces on the Western Slope, I'm asking you guys. What has been your experience with Schwalbe tires, and more specific, the Big Betty Freeride 2.4's.

C'mon man, you know this thread isn't like that.

I'm wondering if I can expect the corner knobs to rip off (Navegal) or the bead to spontaniously blow off the rim (stout).

And I figured the "most abusive trail surfaces" was a compliment.

    Uh huh.

I think tire durability mostly depends on what bike you ride, and where you camp.

Maybe you should post up a thread asking about that too.

Oh - and P.S. - GJ trails ain't got jack on Northern NM and AZ trails. Go do some riding around Los Alamos & Taos if you want a surface that will shred muscle from bone in milliseconds.

Well, I think the Schwalbes suck. But since I haven't actually used them my opinion may not be valid.

I like tires that say "Maxxis" and "2.4" on um. They have a distinct ADVANTAGE. You might even say I'm an ARDENT supporter of the brand.

I'm currently running a Highroller 2.35 as a rear and need a little more volume. I'm running ~40psi just to keep the pinch flats to a minimum.

Why do you think Schwalbes suck? I have no experience with the brand nor do I know anyone off hand who has experience with them. That's why I posted this thread. They're kind of unknown around here.

Seriously, I don't have any first hand experience with them. Just trying to be as un-helpful as possible.

    To wit:

Big Betty, huh? WHO'S RIDING THE FAT CHICKS NOW??

I had a set for about two rides, that's gotta be the slowest rolling tire ever made.

I don't think I'll be getting rid of the Bettys. i just swapped the Highroller for the Big Betty and the difference is plainly visable. By the look of the tread pattern this baby should roll fairly well too.

You can keep that Fire 2.4. I've got one of those on the front of the spare (which is on loan to a guy in Fatington). No need to further handicap my slow azz is there???

Highroller 2.35 SuperTacky front and rear on the 575. I'll switch if anyone ever makes a better tire.

everything I have heard has been good about Schwables..and they look very nice, just a little bit to mucho $$ for my taste. As for rear tires, I am digging the crossmark 2.35 rear, and anything but that lame Ardent for the front..I hate that tire , just my 2cents..sorry Joel

It sucked. Flatted and my brand new pump broke the first time I used it. I had to walk the bike out behind that BS.

I'm thinking Winter Park this Sunday.... Eh? Eh?
