Hi there from the front range,

    GJ/Fruita is Dialed!
Weather is sweet and trails have super tacky lately.

Rode almost everything at Lunch Loops this past week and the trails are in better conditions everyday. Went across the desert from GJ to 18Rd today an everything was dry. So Koko stuff is probably just as good!

The 10 day forecast looks pretty sweet for riding here!

Tabegauche was in great condition Saturday morning (Dec 11th).

I haven't ridden for the past month, so it was my first time riding the new Gunny Loop "double-track" bypass (not the bypass off of Gunnector, still don't know what to think of that) and the new re-route around that steep, loose, rocky climb towards the end of the loop on the south side of LPR.

Kudos to the trailbuilders for those two new sections of trail. Makes the overall Gunny Loop experience more enjoyable.

perfect weather this weekend. Thanks Fruita!

Saturday was a SS day at Mary's/horsethief then a sunset romp on chutes/ladders and joes ridge. Sunday was a freeride shuttle day @ the ribbon/freelunch/eagles tail.

We've gotten some rain this week, but I think everyone will agree this is the best December we've had in a long time.

The ground is not yet frozen, it's only been getting down to the 40's at night. So things will dry out. Avoid the obvious north-facing muddy spots, but the trails for the most part are dialed.

Anything long and easy in Fruita? Kinda like Gemini Bridge in Moab? We're considering trading our skiing plans for a couple of easy rides in Fruita, if there is one. By easy, I mean not overly tech. I'm coming off a cold and have a bike that I've not even test ridden yet. 2 or 3 hours of easier mtbing would be great to shake the cold and get the bike dialed in.

Good news. I will be making my way to Moab next week unless the weather turns bad.

Tabegauche was in decent shape (excellent conditions for this time of year). Rode Holy Cross. Only sketchy parts are sections of Clunker and Kids Meal.

I see the sanitization of Holy Cross has begun. Was wondering when that would start. Quite a few 'techy' sections messed with.

Rode Tabeguache on Sat. & Sun.

Kurts, High Noon, Holy Cross, lower Eagles are great. No mud spots, some areas of snow. Conditions may worsen slightly this week as snow melts off (the climb out of HC comes to mind, snowpacked now).

It was pretty snowy and muddy on Friday afternoon. We drove out to 18 Road just to check it out on our way to Moab, and it was quite far from rideable - not sure about the other trails that way.
Moab on the other hand was great. Amasa Back had almost no snow (except for the entry), and Poison Spider was in similar condition, with very little snow save for some shady sections and the long dirt road section, but rideable the entire way. It was in the 50's most of the weekend.
Skiing in the La Sal's is also good I'm happy to report.

Some photos from today at the Lunch Loops. No mud, dry dirt or packed snow, lots of fun.

Don't know what it's like out at the Kokopelli, but I'm guessing it is similar. 18 Road is the last to dry out and would probably be a mess.

As it warms up and the snow melts a bit more, some places will be quite a mess.

Rode lunch loops around 9:30 this morning. Wow, conditions are getting better everyday. Pet-E-Kes, Squeeze, Coyote Ridge, Ali-Ali and Kurts were awesome. Should be awesome later this weekend and next week as long as everyone avoids the snow sections which are going to turn to mud.

I hiked 18rd last night, if it doesn't have snow on it, it's deep mud, still a couple weeks away from rideable. Took the dog for a hike on Rustlers Monday, good to ride early before it thaws, there were some big ruts from those of us that are over eager (patience, it builds character) . The stuff at Kokopelli should be good with just a couple more days of sun and 40deg temps.

Looking at a Sunday ride with the dog. Driving out heading west midday today (Sat). Would hopping on the Kokopelli just south of Mack be rideable? Looking for something that's not super technical and only about 8-10 miles, out and back or loop.

Fruita would be in better shape than GJ's Gunnision Bluff's Trail area wouldn't it?

Yeah, it's a crap shoot but that time of year is when the odds start getting a little bit more favorable. Still, you should have a plan B ready and as mentioned, Moab isn't that far away, but it's no guarantee either - the weather and conditions are different there, but not that different

    Givin' this thread a bump.

Any current knowledge on the state of the western end of the valley(Mary's and the like, Rabbit Valley)? I figure parts LL is good to go.

I was stuck in town yesterday (GJ) and didn't make it out. It barely sprinkled around me, but looked ominous in every direction. Rain is forecast today, but I'll be damned if I can pick out a cloud right now that looks like it could produce rain.

Talked to a rider at the LL lots and he said he ran into enough mud on high noon and miramonte to turn back. I rode up curts/raven to the moto turnoff then turned around and went back down raven, up around ali ali both directions and back down curts. No mud on the bike when i finished but it sounded like other trails need another week or two.

Nice quick ride that left me enough energy to pull the kiddie trailer around when i got home.

Miramonte was actually good to go yesterday. A little damp on the West rim, but the soil is sandy. Did not pick up any mud, no ruts. Everything else was dry - Kurt's, Ali, Ali Loop, Raven's. Looking down from Miramonte, Klunker looked okay as well.

Here are some photos from today's ride. I went up Curt's Lane, over to Ali Loop, Around Miramonte Rim, up Coyote Ridge to High Noon. I had planned on riding High Noon to Pet-E-Kes, but it was a mess just after the intersection with Lemon Squeezer. I had talked to a gentleman earlier on the trail who said that Pet-E-kes was good to go, but that he walked parts of Lemon Squeezer due to mud.

    EASTER SUNDAY REPORT

Way too much rain the last few days. Most trails must be mud bogs by now, especially 18 Road, and it is supposed to rain for at least two more days. Here's hoping it dries up a bit for riding next weekend (4/30-5/1).

I rode Kokopelli (Mary's/Horsethief/Wrangler) this morning before the most recent rain... the trails were actually in pretty decent shape. Not completely dry, but I didn't have any mud on my bike when I was done. It started pouring about 2 minutes after I left, and I imagine that made the trails pretty muddy for everyone that was still out this morning.
