In Delta/Montrose for work this week, brought the bike

    Hey MTBR Western Slopers,

I'm working in Delta and staying in Montrose this week. Brought the GF Roscoe (5.5" trail/AM) with me.

I have the OTE Grand Valley guide book and the relatively new Mountain Bikers Guide to CO, but nothing covers Montrose and Delta. I've ridden up by Paonia once and had fun. I also did a loop on the weat side of the Grand Mesa (I think it was the Flowing Park trail).

Looking for new trails. I'd rather not drive up to GJ as I've ridden Kokopelli, 18 Road and Lunch Loops many times.

Post work ride recommendations? Preferably no lights as not looking for epics, just 1.5-2 hrs of sweat & saddle time.

    Thanks!

You might check out Ouray. It's about 35 miles from Montrose. The only riding I've done down there is the gravel road from Ouray to Ridgway and back, but it sure is a pretty location.

Looks like they do have some trails, but I don't know anything about them.

I rode a relatively new trail on BLM land down near Ridgeway. I seem to rember it being near the lake, on the east side of 550.

Closest to Delta is Sidewinder. Go by the bike shop in Delta off of Hwy 50 for directions.

Just finished scouting Sidewinder, gonna ride it tomorrow. Drove my Grand Cherokee all the way to the Sidewinder Tr/Eagle Valley Tr intersection on Eagle Rd... Eagle "road" was a bit surprising. I read you might need a high clearance 4x4... Didn't know I was gonna need 4Lo... Lol

Gonna ride Eagle Valley Tr >> Sidewinder as an OAB tomorrow.

Great trail. Seemed like a love child of Holy Cross and Horsethief Bench.
