Aspen: looking for beta for June trip

    Hey gang,
I'm heading out to Aspen at the end of June for the Aspen Backcountry Marathon (don't ask me how I got this crazy) and am looking for a cool place to stay. It'll be my wife and I and we don't need some fancy expensive resort so I'm looking for a cabin or something that's not too far from downtown and doesn't cost a small fortune. Race is June 29 and we'll probably arrive the Monday or Tuesday before.

Also, if you can provide info on bike rentals, I may want to do some acclimatizing by bike!

Info on local eats, pubs, etc also welcome.

    Thanks for your help!

Depends on your definition of a "small fortune"...

that is a busy time here. try the limelight lodge or the Mountain chalet. you can check with ACRA (aspen chamber resort assoc.) to find deals too. Basalt is 20 minutes away and cheaper. Good eats are everywhere. Pacifica, Salt, Steakhouse, Little Annies, Mezzaluna...can't really go wrong with food in Aspen. Ajax bike and ski for rentals.

stayaspensnowmass.com will be a good place to start looking. Basalt and Carbondale have lodging, excellent restaurants, and good bike shops (Basalt Bike & Ski, Aloha Mountain Cyclery). Carbondale has some of the best food in the valley but lodging is a bit limited to Days Inn and Comfort Suites. Basalt has a couple of B&Bs. Check also the Inn at Aspen, they are really nice and have treated us very well.

Glenwood has a few good rides, a quick search in this forum has some info.

Carbondale, Basalt Mountain, Snowmass, Aspen, all have great riding.

Thanks. Yea it looks like we're going to stay with the Glenwood Adventure Co and do some playing in the area before the race.

    Thanks again for your help!

Glenwood will be cheaper. To do a cabin close to downtown will be killer expensive. You have plenty of riding within an hour of that area. looking for training rides or mtbing?
