Are you Stoopid? Saturday's Dirt Fix

Watch out TiTs Crew. There's a rider out there Training to be at the front of the pack. AV Boy is rockin the singlespeed and getting very speedy.

Saturday Morning I went down to Monument with AV Boy to do some more exploring since it was my only my third time down there and AV Boy's 1st time.

I threw together a bad azz little route with a little over 3,000 ft of accumulated climbing in 18 miles. I know a short day on the bike but I'm still a little sore today. I think it was trying to hold AV Boy's pace going up Mt. Herman Rd twice!

    The shrine in the woods

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goatshell/4354936139/" title="Shrine by Goat in a Turtle Shell, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4045/4354936139_5e682bf86c_b.jpg" width="820" height="614" alt="Shrine" /></a>

AV Boy Flyin down the rocks at the base of Mt Herman

    a little snowpacked fireroad climbing

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goatshell/4355682422/" title="Packed snow fireroad climbing by Goat in a Turtle Shell, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2687/4355682422_d1ccbb53fc_b.jpg" width="614" height="820" alt="Packed snow fireroad climbing" /></a>

    My new Clunker

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goatshell/4354966075/" title="My new Beater by Goat in a Turtle Shell, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4030/4354966075_1ded4593d2_o.jpg" width="820" height="614" alt="My new Beater" /></a>

Had so much fun on this section...we did it twice

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goatshell/4355711624/" title="Me on Flying Dog by Goat in a Turtle Shell, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2683/4355711624_b40391c437_o.jpg" width="614" height="820" alt="Me on Flying Dog" /></a>

We were the 1st to break trail on Upper Stoopid and it was grand...AV Boy made riding that ice look like a high wire trapeze act...cool and collected that one was

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goatshell/4354937237/" title="Sean on Upper Stoopid by Goat in a Turtle Shell, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2693/4354937237_977ec6c4f2_b.jpg" width="614" height="820" alt="Sean on Upper Stoopid" /></a>

and the further down we went...trails started showing dry dirt

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goatshell/4355683962/" title="Sean on Upper Stoopid by Goat in a Turtle Shell, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4064/4355683962_b83f7ffa78_b.jpg" width="614" height="820" alt="Sean on Upper Stoopid" /></a>

Got in a little ice fishin while we were riding

If you remember back in December PBR took a fall that required 20 stitches in his ear. This is the rock that took him out.

Ya, I rode but certainly my old-man body wasn't ready to do anything stoopid this weekend. Made lotsa first-tracks around the 'ranch this am tho before things got melty.

Looks like you guys had a good time, AV, glad to hear you are taking to the SS so well! Must be the excellent power transfer on the aluminum frame...

Funny enough that was the most technical section of trail in all that we rode. I mean there was rocks and techy moves to be made elsewhere but that section was still the steepest and toughest to ride without dabbing a few times. At least on a rigid.

Tact is for people not witty enough to be sarcastic...

    Yup, thats the one

You come down the hill on that side, so you were on the right line.

MTNGOAT, I have been riding up there for years, have never seen that car, where its it?

I was thinking the same thing and figured you, Kurt, or Brian (Gram) would know. LOL.
A trail thatís too difficult wouldnít exist because itíd never be used. But, trails can exist thatíre too difficult for you.

It looks like the one on the climb up 715 from MH Rd before dropping into Limbaugh.

1st entrance to Limbaugh Canyon. Right across Mt. Herman Rd entrance to Upper Stoopid. About a 1/4 mile in, if that.

Ha ha! I generally drop into Limbaugh higher, as it increases the fun factor. Occasionally, I'll go in that way (by the old shooting range), but sorta stopped doing that when I started singlespeeding (~7 years ago), because that climb sucks on a singlespeed!

Yea, it is right after you crest that first wicked climb, and just before you get into the deep gravel. I have also seen people camp there before.
