    Wicked Crash at Carrizo Gorge

Well, summer's rolling around again which means I'll be trolling the CO forums again until my Colorado trip at the end of the summer. Here's my contribution to the CO forums imported from SoCal.

This particular video is somewhat of a SoCal internet sensation; don't know if you guys and gals have seen this, but to counter the former "wicked crash" thread, watch our friend Miles take a fall. One of the scariest I've seen. This is a few years back and unbelievably Miles was OK.

Sorry no ghey porn shirtless pics, I'll contribute that when I'm in CO.

Hey Tom, good to hear that you're making it out to CO and hopefully we can get together for a ride or two. We have a baby girl due at the end of July and a parade of relatives visiting from OZ from now until the end of autumn. It's going to be a crazy year but fingers crossed I'll still be able to find time to ride.

Awesome man! Ours will be 2 yo this June. Yea, we need to find one day to get to Keystone again. If we can get Renny, Ithnu, Godzilla, DWF, SteveCo71, kristian, nickle and anybody else that wants to ride on the same day.... that would be great. Maybe even Rroeder???

    I'll talk more via PM.

Sounds good. If you can get enough Turners together, you could have a HICK gathering. You know, Homers In Colorado's Keystone.

Nah, pure holiday this time no schedule to keep, race to train for etc. So I'll be open to trying new trails and riding with the appropriate tyres to suit the trail Next year if all works out I will be going for 3 races in 4 weeks Not sure if I'll get in enough training though and have the recovery needed to do it. Would be the Laramie 111km race, then 2 weeks, Leadville 100 and then 1 week and the Fools Gold 50 - might be a bit hard to do, but I'll be preparing as if I can do it. Keep us updated on things as the progress.

I have no idea why anyone would want to ride with me, but sure, I'm game for a group ride. I still have never met Ithnu or Steve71, but with smiles like these, who wouldn't want to.

PS - Have we met yet mouse jockey? keep in mind that I have the memory of an alzheimer's patient.

Doesn't matter if she'll be coming or not. She doesn't date Homers. Her parents taught her well.

Nope, we haven't met but I lurk often on the CO boards it seems like I know you guys. I usually head to CO late August through early September right around Labor Day. I'll be sure to keep you guys informed because I def would like to organize a Keystone posse some time.

XCguy I didn't mean to leave you out. I'm going to try to hit some of the new Clear creek trails too if you are not interested in the DH stuff at Keystone.

To answer a couple of the questions here, I did break a bone. My right pinkie. Mainly I suffered a lot of cuts and punctures. As odd as it may seem, no bruises to speak of- I just don't bruise much at all.

The ride back out sucked. I'd also sprained my left wrist, and lost my glasses, so the long bumpy ride back to the vehicles was a bummer. The ER visit was fun, too- especially when Nurse Ratchett got out the rubbing alcohol and scotch-brite pads to clean everything up!

    Congrats on your survival!

I hate riding trail with lots of exposure... with my fear of heights it's hard to know when your fears are reasonable or not, so I just stay away from the edge.

xcguy, not dhguy. When you're up for an easy recovery ride at Centennial Cone (during the week) let me know. My descending skills are glacial but I do like to ride. And...

What is it about late August/early September that brings you out here? If the pass from the wifey is good for one week a year, isn't the THC in Utah on your wishlist?

Yea, I know you're xcguy that's why I said I'd also like to ride some Clear Creek trails. Those trails are XC trails with exposure above Georgetown.

Last year Steve71 and I hit some XC trails in Golden Gate but I didn't get a chance to ride the CC trails. I'd like to remedy that.

The reason I get to CO once a year is to see the parents and they could see their granddaughter (my daughter). No real reason we go in late August, it just turns out to be the time we usually go.

Thanks for chiming in on this thread Miles. You're an internet legend! Get with Aqua and ride Iron or ATT with us some time! IM me when you want to go.

I've been working so damned much I hardly even remember what my bike looks like. I need to get out and ride some trails. I've promised Aqua I'd show him the Enigma Trail, but we just haven't had a chance to put a ride together.

    Which trails?

Yup Steve was kind enough to take me out there as well last year and i really enjoyed it, we hit Mtn.Lion there and then a bit further out to do 3 Sisters. Looking forward to hopefully getting back out there this next time around and seeing what it's like with something more than Nano's and an increase in bike handling.

Well not full on Dh casings, but they do make the Nevegal 2.2" (actually measures about 2.4"), Rampage 2.3", Mtn King 2.4", Stoute, so yeah the tyres are there if I chose them. I'll be getting quite a few new tyres I suspect this trip out to gain some better knowledge of what's available for 29ers instead of just the XC ones. Will also be going 120mm, 20mm thru axle fork.

I don't believe we rode 3 sisters but we did ride Bergen peak and Mtn lion - Coyote GG park ride. And then we hit Keystone for a day. We rode right after you were there LyNx.

He's a good tour guide, 3 Sisters was about 45 min drive further east from Mtn Lion. So spill the beans, what was Steve saying about the crazy Bajan I know he was considering going for a 29er after seeing me climb on that thing with very minimal tread tyres Personally I couldn't even believe stuff I was able to climb with it at times, looking forward to meatier tyres this time around. I was amazed when he point that damned Reign DH, he just flew, luckily he did wait for me to catch up and then rocketed away again.

Still though of all the riding I did up there, Halls Ranch which El Beastro took me to was my fav, really enjoyed the continuous tech climbing.

Sounds like you've got some good options there. Just makes sure they have burly sidewalls .

120mm fork with 20mm TA will be excellent! I don't keep up with the 29'er developments... who's making the fork?

Well right now Manitou has one available and RS has announced a re-design for "'09" (supposed to be available sometime end of this month) to take their REBAs to 120mm travel with Maxle Lite and even added U-Turn giving 90-120 adjustability. These new REBAs are supposedly the same wight as the old ones, yet stiffer.

As to the tyres, I didn't experience any problems with the more XC oriented ones I was running so don' think these bigger ones should suffer. Will be picking up some in July to test before I head up in August.
