    What's dry this weekend?

Anybody have thoughts on Buff Creek? How about Deer Creek? Green Mtn should be dry, right? White Ranch? If the sun comes out tomorrow everything should dry up pretty quick, right?

Nothing is sticking in Salida. We've had some snow squalls blowing through all day, and some kind of rain/snow mix, but not that amounts to anything. Just a little moist outside and blustery. By the weekend we'll be hero dirt all over. Good chance our local section of Rainbow Trail at 9K will be more or less dry.

Where's the best Salida worm hole...for the Front Range?

Rainbow Trail via Silver Creek is on my radar for end of May.

I'm betting BC looks a bit like this...only 3 inches of snowy moisture fell there so far compared to Morrison's 6 inches

A lot of the Colorado Springs trails will be great this weekend. I'll be out doing laps around Cheyenne Canon Saturday afternoon and am happy for any company. Hartman Rocks on Sunday.

I was asking about the Front Range. That there Salida town is west slope so it doesn't count!

Well, you just asked what's dry this weekend...

But Salida isn't western slope. We sit on the Arkansas which flows to the Atlantic. Continental Divide is just 30 miles over, but we're on the east side of it. Western Slope means the part of CO that drains to the Pacific.

(Just because mtbr thinks all of CO can be divided into Front Range and Western Slope doesn't mean it can.)

Do you think Buff Creek will be ridable by tomorrow lunch time? Even if there is lingering snow melt, the decomposed granite holds up well to wet so little mud right?

Rainbow sounds promising for a weekend trip! How far up the Rainbow Trail can one ride right now from Salida towards the Co Trail? Would love to get a 20 mi out and back in if possible.

There are two local sections of Rainbow near Salida that are fun to ride.

Most people know about the section that they ride at the end of a Crest Day. It does NOT meet the Colorado Trail. It meets the Silver Creek Trail where you cross the little bridge, the Silver Creek Trail meets the combined Colorado Trail/Continental Divide Trail south of Marshall Pass. So if you are riding the Crest, you hit Marshall Pass and continue south, then take the trail downhill, that's Silver Creek. At the end of Silver Creek you cross the little bridge and ride down the creek bed for a couple hundred yards then hit a jeep road, then come to a trailhead. THAT is the western terminus of the Rainbow.

That section won't dry up for about a month. Maybe less, but the way weather has been this spring I'm not counting on it.

The other section is due south of Salida. We ride from town a little bit east on highway 50 then climb the Bear Creek Road (County Road 101) which is graded gravel for about 4 miles then steep jeep for about 4 miles to the Rainbow. Then you ride the trail east to west and can come down CR 108 (which is the road that comes out at Burger King). You can hit the Little Rainbow on the way down 108 for a little more fun...

That ride opens up some years (like last year) as early as April 20. A friend told me he rode it Saturday and it was clear. Do the whole loop and it is in the 20 mile range. Only about half is singletrack, but it's really a good ride.

I appreciate the info. Had no idea the Rainbow didn't hit the Co Trail. I am usually spent and grinning ear to ear after the crest to realize if I am coming off of the Co Trail, or as a matter of fact now, the Silver Creek Trail.

    Thanks!
