What are you looking to pick up at Veloswap?

Nothing big for me this year- I've bought two new bikes in the last 12 months and the wife's a bit touchy about the possibility of another purchase. Instead, I'm just going to get the stuff I'll need anyways- brake pads, gloves, etc.

    What about you?

LOL. Dang there were some good responces in this thread already.

Hairylegs, I got ya beat. I've bought 5 frames in the last 12 months and enough parts to build them all... with spares. That goes to 6 bikes if we make it 14 months. I'm better off just not going.

Its a neat place to go. Let me tell you though, KNOW YOUR PRICES! Its a good place to get close out models. Search Ebay, MTBR, mags, craigslist and online vendors for whats going for what. A lot of independants sell stuff for half of what they paid for it, sad thing is, you can get it brand new for the same price.

I worked a booth last year to help a friend out in South Dakota (shop). Here was the most common and stupid questions:

Veloswap patron: You got any used DownHill bikes?
me: Yes, I have three, here they are
Veloswap Patron: Wow, 1800 is kinda high (worth exactly that on ebay, craigslist, etc)
me: What were you looking to spend?
    Veloswap Patron: 'bout 300 bucks

You will find great deals. Best strategy is to go in knowing exactly what you're trying to get. TAKE CASH PEOPLE!

The best deals are gone before the doors open (Vendors buying from vedors). The better deals go quickly. Then wait. Wait until the very end of the day, and then bargin with those larger dealers. They'll more than likely take it if its reasonable. (If what you want isn't already gone).

Oh, and bypass the Subaru BS and head to the back. More independants back there.

BTW, Many are too proud of their parts/bikes. Even though they're broken (spotted 5 boken yetis going for 2k each), people still want high prices for junk.

It's funny to hear you people say that people ask too much. Whenever I've sold stuff there, I get tired of being insulted by the buyer. Most of these sellers are already losing their shorts on this stuff, just to get rid of it. Just like IE said, buyers want everything for nothing there. I've literally had people offer me $10 for a new (still in box) XTR rear der! Even at $100 I'd be losing money. Long story short, I don't sell there any more. I use Craigslist or another venue. Do I buy there? not unless I find the retarded good deal - like the ex-Chris King employee that was selling headsets for $50. Were they hot? Probably. Do I still go? Sure. It's fun to watch 15,000 bikers act like pirannha around a drop of blood!

Ebay has killed Veloswap. I've been going to Veloswap for 10 years now and it's changed significantly over that time. It used to be that everyone bought a new bike every other year (because the technology was changing so fast) and Veloswap was the only venue to sell old stuff--talk about a buyer's market! There were CRAZY deals. Now it seems like every seller knows exactly what some sucker on Ebay will pay for their (fill in piece of crap here) and they won't budge a penny under it. I'm not talking offering $300 for an $1800 DH bike, I'm talking: "I've seen some stupid schmuck on Ebay pay $2000 for this so I'm not willing to sell it for $1800"...

The other big thing missing is the race teams. It used to be that Cannondale, Schwinn and Yeti always brought their factory race vans and the mechanics walked with a nice cash bonus for all the left over parts at the end of the season. There's nothing like paying $5 a pop for brand new DH tires!

Oh well, I guess I'm a bitter veteran, but there are still deals to be had if you know your prices and I'll be in line by 7:30am...

That's what I miss the most as well. $5 t shirts and $20 jerseys.

    Idea! speaking of cash

bring an extra $20 and head over to the COMBA booth to join the ranks of your front range brethren (& sistahs) fighting the good fight...

plus you'll be entered to win a brand new YETI ARC frame (at ridiculously low odds).

*and if no cash, we'll gladly take your credit card info down. (we're nice like that).

.And following our will and wind . . .
. . .We'll ride the spiral to the end
and may just go where no one's been.

Stop by booth 298 & 299....we've got so much stuff to sell. I think we've got like 10 frames to sell and 3 or 4 complete bikes....we need more space in our basement

Covic Racing will also be there at booth 319 displaying and selling Kowa forks. Hopefully Joe will have the new air dual crown fork and inverted dual crown fork there and the credit card machine

I'm at booth 486. I'm splitting the booth with a buddy who's BMX-oriented (I know nothing about BMX myself).

I've got very little to sell- some nice DT Swiss wheels, a couple sets of rotors, three stems, used saddles, two older road bikes that I'm selling for my Dad, and some ski gear I'm selling for a friend (tele stuff). None of this is for profit really, just for the purpose of clearing out some space in our garages.

Stop by and I'll spot you a cold beer. If you see something you want, I promise you this- it will be inexpensive.

    Cups are the key

Yeah- I pulled the same act dumb routine last year when they were threatening to hand out those fines. This year, I'm bringing cups.

    Where to get pre-bought tickets?

I can't seem to find it on the web, I've called the shops that used to sell them (but that was probably a couple of years ago).

*** Nevermind, found ad on Craigslist, being sold at REI and Performance

My thoughts exactly, which is why we haven't been in 3-4 years. I used to drop some serious coin there, too, it was the #1 impulse shopping day of the year.
Now I just have stuff to sell and not enough time...

VeloSwap virgin debrief...............I saw a nice Yeti DH 9 offered up for $400 minus drivetrain, Dorado fork included. Same booth had $5 and $10 DH tires. Lots of vintage stuff priced UNDER Ebay going rate. The South Dakota folks I knew down there priced to sell and were empty by 2PM. The folks selling Chacos at retail prices need a clue, table looked full art 2PM. I have been selling and attending various types of swapmeets for years, sure you can sit on the parts and SAY they are worth blah blah blah on Ebay but if you wanna turn it, price it to sell!

Veloswap was fun. I was helping out some friends that I used to work with from Wisconsin. They had some realy great product, and killer pricing. I had some guy get pissted at me for not selling an 07 XO shifter set NIB for $20. I mean not that it mattered that they are $299 normal retail, or that we were selling them for less than half that. Some of the people just amazed me. All in all most people were honest, and knew their stuff. It was nice to see.
Yeti was selling off the demo bikes and parts. They had a local team doing it.
