What did you buy/sell at VeloSwap?

What a great day at VeloSwap! We had table #194 up front. I sold my Titus Quazi-Moto, Fox Air Vanilla R, Power 21 tool, XT BB, mini-pump. I bought a new pair of Lake mtb shoes. Did everybody have fun?

I decided nto to go since all I had was $40 to spend and couldnt even get there till like 12 and all I really need right now is some disc brakes and chainguide/ring for my hardtail. As well as snowskilz's SGS frame.

Got a good deal at the Bike Station booth on a pair of Shimano shoes I wanted. Nothing else I found that I needed. I got there at 7:00am. I was number four in line. The first two guys got there at 5:00am and were ticked that nobody else showed up till me and the guy in front of me showed up two hours later!

Looked like a lower turnout than last year.

We spent all of our money.

We bought vendor arm-bands and started shopping about 7:30.

I bought a new pair of Ksyrium SLs, a new pair of crossmax XLs, a jersey, etc.

My wife bought a built-up Blur.

Holy Sh!t we haven't spent like that in recent memory. My bank account hurts.

Bought some Maxxis Tires (4), Dirt Rag beanie hat, some sweet mid '90s silver/red spider Caramba cranks, and some XTR brake levers. And I sold my Trials bike (yay). But I haven't opened my lovely box of pasta yet, and I laughed when I saw that the free issue of VeloNews was from September.

Got a, like new, Judy SL for $15 that I needed for my commuter bike, and 2 boxes of Larabars (best tasting bar I've ever tried). Very tempted to pick up some Spox road wheels but I resisted...the Heliums work fine...

i decided to go after much deliberation...picked up some maxxis tires, a disc brake rotor, some gloves, a shifter cable, two pair of socks, some merrell shoes for my daughter (and eventually my son), and some degreaser...wanted to get a few more things but ran our of patience (dont prefer large crowds), but well worth the trip

Race Face taperlock ti bb $15
Cook Bros E-2 crankset, with rings and alu bolts $20
Thomson stem 5 degree rise, 90mm, silver $10 (the real score for me this year)
Kujo DH 2.65, Specialized Evil Twin Roller 2.6, and a Maxxis Minion 2.7 tires. $5 each.

was looking for a good deal on a used or new Z-150 and a 20mm front wheel, but no luck there.

oh yeah, and a pair of Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor shorts new for $40.
the girlfriend scored a new seat for her bike. then used the 20% off coupon at Performance yesterday to load up on a few other things.

The helmet--not the fixxy. I found a new Giro MadMax for $50, a few 2.25 Kujos and two WTB Laser V DH saddles. I escaped with $370 still in my pocket, although I wish I would have found more deals and left with less money. I think there were fewer people selling new stuff and more people selling crap than there usually is...

yeah, sounds about right. alot of seriously beat down crap that some people were asking waaaaaay too much money for.

i came home with most of my swap budget money intact.

Sure seemed that way to me. Most of what I saw was old 7 speed cassettes and parts/tires that looked really well used. I just kind of passed through, didn't really need anything, but I had hoped to see more new/take off type parts than I did.

Maybe it was just a bad year...

I think it's the state of the industry and economy

My impressions of Veloswap are largely based on 1998-2000 when it seemed like there were tons of people selling really decent stuff for not a lot of money. That was about the time when people were really starting to jump on the FS bandwagon and there were so many advances in terms of forks, brakes and drivetrains.

For the past 2-3 years I think people are upgrading/buying new bikes less because of a combination of fewer "earthshattering technological advances" and a weaker economy. And on the other hand, people are keeping their stuff longer and if the sell it, they need to make money on it to pay rent, rather than to buy a new bike.

What I really miss were the large race teams there selling everything that was left in the semi after race season. Those were always the best deals on practically brand new stuff....
