    We're Missing the BeanFeSSt!!!

My mind raced through the calendar as I looked out the window yesterday morning, cold gray fog shrouded the trees and dripped miserably from the deck. Damn...how could we have screwed up the days?

However, a quick check confirmed that despite the trickster weather we were not missing BeanFeSSt.

Instead we scrambled, slowly, to get ready for the HutFeSSt - a last minute call to crank arms that Mateo had thrown out there, a call that needed to be obeyed.

    <img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIv5g_KYBI/AAAAAAAAIkk/XuvkeVjDyZQ/s800/DSC_4319.jpg"

    The crew that showed up.

    <img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIv5m6tjYI/AAAAAAAAIks/jrNGqVmicMM/s800/DSC_4322.jpg"

Heading out in the pouring rain. Would it snow up higher?
Please note, the photographer acknowledges the middle finger being thrown his way by the trailing rider.

    <img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIv6qmCi_I/AAAAAAAAIlE/ZY6Vb_x46MU/s800/DSC_4337.jpg"

    We climbed...

    <img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIwOThUWyI/AAAAAAAAIlc/APPxcI7uR2o/s800/DSC_4345-2.jpg"

    and climbed.

    <img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIwOyXRO-I/AAAAAAAAIls/Jg99lNV6t3w/s800/DSC_4350.jpg"

There were some skeptical looks but no snow.

    <img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIwmEsUmiI/AAAAAAAAImA/9_BueLvD3KM/s800/DSC_4357.jpg"

    We forged ahead, undeterred.

    <img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIwmOaE8xI/AAAAAAAAImI/jEO9CeikkTE/s800/DSC_4362.jpg"

    White line fever and...

    <img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIwmd1YN6I/AAAAAAAAImQ/7RnV6Vh8N58/s800/DSC_4367.jpg"

    puddle splashing urged us onward.

    <img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIwm7Fiy3I/AAAAAAAAImg/A3uFPqhkbQ8/s800/DSC_4392.jpg"

    On the way back down...

    <img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIv53C9xiI/AAAAAAAAIk0/hj4pXRJ1LAM/s800/DSC_4323.jpg"

mind your head!!! Upon closer inspection, the hornets were merely sluggish and wisely hiding from the cold but still quite willing to defend the nest if need be!!!

    Yikes

    <img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIwPKW4O7I/AAAAAAAAIl0/B5pTFLYFXoc/s800/DSC_4353.jpg"

An occasional nip warms the throat and calms the nerves.

    <img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIxUYEGJUI/AAAAAAAAInA/ODqDertqyHo/s800/DSC_4395.jpg"

    We continued our descent...

    <img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIxU6Ib-NI/AAAAAAAAInQ/N32tudziS9I/s800/DSC_4401.jpg"

    <img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIwmScGPkI/AAAAAAAAImY/8yCCm7Ss9Gw/s800/DSC_4385.jpg"

    <img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIxVN2ilKI/AAAAAAAAInY/s_wMM9fzsTk/s800/DSC_4403.jpg"

    <img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIxVGz_7QI/AAAAAAAAIng/aMfrrNTZzjg/s800/DSC_4406.jpg"

as the heavy, glowering skies darkened.

    <img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIxlEcwzbI/AAAAAAAAInw/HuIE-vlxefc/s800/DSC_4420-2.jpg"

    We packed up and...

    <img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIxlAcs2yI/AAAAAAAAIn4/BC5C2eLEss4/s800/DSC_4446.jpg"

hit the hut for some warmth...

    <img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/edemtbs/SPIxlk4Hc5I/AAAAAAAAIoA/Tkk4nBj_QPs/s800/DSC_4452.jpg"

    and celebratory libation.

Pablo, we're officially ready for the BeanFeSSt

Man, all I did was spend 30 minutes on the trainer and indulge in some Isolation Ale. You are all too hardcore for me. Thanks for the pics.

SSpikey, you didn't have to ride back there, you know. You could have ridden off the front if you weren't so busy flippin' off the Photographer ... I'm just sayin'.

Mateo, thanks for another brilliant ride plan and after-ride party. You are a wonderful host on all accounts, and we LOVE your ridin', playin' groove;-) Thanks for letting us play with your darling mini-you (Z.R) and your Kitties.

Sspikey: thanks for the all-day monologue and the consistent giggle-company. I can always count on you ... I swear.

EdEmtbs: thanks for yet another fun-tastic day out playing in the elements. You keep my heart warm and alight with the most brilliant fire ;-)

Here are my relatively awful pictures. It was entirely way too soaking wet outside for me to feel even remotely interested in or willing to pull the camera out. Mateo, somehow I really messed up the one pic I took of you. You'll have to make-do with EdE's fabulous rock-star shots;-)

picture of EdEmtbs rollin' up the sandy, burnt climb we all know and love so much.

picture of Sspikey mimmicking EdEmtbs ... he was chasin', tryin' to give EdEmtbs the finger the whole way up the climb

    love you all

great stuff, ed! usually the "rain-all-over-the-lens" shots are throw aways, but some of these are incredible!

    Nice pics Ed!

A few pics from me. I knew I could count on you guys to go out no matter what the weather was like. The hut is a lot more fun after you suffer a bit.

I like when Ed's not getting ready for some huge ride. He can carry more booze.

    A side note

Did you see the forecast for this weekend ??

Those pic's look like the real thing; it will be funny seeing shots with nice blue skies from the "Real" BeanFeSSt next week.

My soggy ride at Deer Creek that morning was good but i only had the btu's from the tacoma to warm up by. That hut is the sh*t! Next time!!

Glad I fooled ya for just a second onbelay

Thanks everyone, I'm glad people still enjoy plain 'ol pictures.

At first I was bummed out about the conditions for picture taking, especially because Mateo loaned me a super nice lens to use for the ride. But I went with it and embraced the mood of the scenery. The rain drops on the lens help tell the story. I definitely messed around in post processing with the B&W, grainy look to enhance the feel. Not sure they came out as good as they could have in more skilled hands, I'm still learning, but it was fun messing with the shots. I also probably posted too many shots, I tend to fall in love with too many pictures

Good equipment definitely helps, it enables you to capture what you see and helps with the interpretation. It is freeing in some ways but you have to know how and when to use the right pieces. Equipment can help bring out the "soul" of a scene - got that Skared....the soul?

Anyone else notice how well Spike and JJ collaborated on color coordination?

Thanks Mateo, Spike and JJ for an excellent ride!!!

Perhaps the BeanFeSSt weather jinx is now broken

There's "Picture Taking" , "Documentary Photography" and then there's "Photography" as an art form, and as in all arts...anything goes
