New question here. This weeks where to night ride in the springs thread.......

Any of you fellas have any interest in riding on Wed.? The weather guessers are saying cold and snowy leading up to it and the night of. So the question is, if you want to ride where? Or should we push it a day to the right and see if the weather is better on Thur. Thoughts?

I would like to suffer on Wed. I can not ride Thur and will understand if others are not interested in a suffer-fest. If we do ride Wed and receive moisture I recommend the canyon again, I am still dreaming of grusmosis.

Well now the weather folks are saying rain instead of snow so any ideas? Section 16 is always fun in the damp/wet

With ya 100% except for one small detail early Thursday morning which pretty much is going to keep me home Wed night. : (

So probably won't see you guys on this one. Weekend and next week - good to go.

    Hey Jack,

Keep in touch with me depending on the road conditions--it might not be worth your time driving down on I-25 if we get some weather since it tends to turn into a parking lot. You will enjoy having the Enduro for this ride.

If you're able to make, it, exit I-25 at Cimarron (hwy 24) and take a left at the ramp. Drive to 21st Street (the second stop light) and take a left. Go up the hill and take a right on Lower Gold Camp Rd (at the top of the hill). Drive about a mile to to 4way stop at Bear Creek Rd. and take a left. Drive about another mile and you will see a water tower on the right hand side of the street--we'll meet at the parking area across the street from that water tower. BTW, cell reception at the water tower isn't very good so you'll have a hard time reaching us after about 5:45.

I hope you can make it!

Yes, you seem to come on all of the gnarly weather rides . I don't remember if we've ever ridden Section 16 with you, but it should be in epic shape tomorrow if we get the precip they are calling for. Just allow a little extra time to surf through the morons on the Interstate on your way down.

In honor of Jack making the trek down from Denver I would like to suggest climbing High Drive to the saddle and play Black Jack before Palmer/Section 16. I will bring the cards everyone bring a buck.

I hate to leave my comrades to all that fun in the cold, snowy weather. My little early Thursday morning tribulation got moved back. Bike's in the shop again, but hope to get it back tomorrow. So....might be able to make this one after all.

Freezing rain already? The weather forcasters are saying that it's going to be nasty this evening. They're saying that we'll be having wind gust up to 45mph with snow mixed in. I'm thinking, no thank you...
I know that some of you will still want to ride but if anyone wants to meet for a beer and some food instead let me know.

I wussed out because of the wind on Sunday so I'm extra energized to ride tonight. Let's make the call later this afternoon when we can see what things look like.

How do you know when a weather man is lying?

I had to cut the lunch ride short. It was fun riding in the snow, but Ute is a mud pit right now. I wish I could have hit Section 16 on my lunch....that would have been fun.

I am still up for it - the weather report I am looking at just shows snow, 31 deg and windy - light spring blizzard. It just lightly snowing up here. If it's that bad down there call it. Nick? K? If you are still riding let me know. I was planning on bailing on work at 3 so I could be on the road by 4.

    Velominati ? The Rules

#5 and #9... i'll come drink but if people are riding i'll join!

"Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work."

Well it's rideable but the problem is its so wet that its uber muddy and sloppy. So definitely trail damage conditions in certain areas.

Yeah, agree. Just got back. Not as cold as it looks. Feet were fine, hands were fine, but dressed for it.

2-4" of wet sticky snow with occasional water underneath or mud, in the lower areas. Higher areas, 4-6", nice blanket of velvet, though a heavy and slick in places. Trails not bad. Gold Camp is a mud-bath with the cars.

The wind is starting to whip down here, too.

Good luck to anyone who goes; definitely doable. I've got to go pick up the 9er tonight; the 6er has pretty minimal tread and not enough time to change out tires.

Anyone riding tomorrow night? Thoughts for the weekend?

It was everything I had hoped it would be--definitely one of the best snow rides this year! I can't wait to see Nick's pics! There was anywhere between 4-6" of snow and the climb up Palmer Trail was barely rideable (but we were able to ride 90% of it). There had been one runner so no "freshies" in the technical sense, but we definitely got first bike tracks up until about the slabby section where it looked like someone had pushed up. We didn't see a lick of mud, but it had been below 28 degrees for quite a while by the time we hit the lower stuff. I crashed twice, and I think P-dubs went down 3 times--all on a fluffy white pillow so no harm done. After Palmer, we did Stephanies once and then another trail Nick knew just east of Stephanies. Great times were had by all, toes didn't lose feeling until the end of the ride, and we missed you steak eating, whiskey drinking fools who's better judgement caused them to miss an awesome ride!

Thanks to Jack for braving I-25 to come down and enjoy it with us--I hope you had a safe drive back up north

Great ride, definitively memorable and hopefully marking the end of winter. That was the craziest trip down Section 16 that I have ever done. Thank to Kristian, Pdubs, and Jack for venturing out in the questionable weather and Jay for the red meat. Pictures should be up soon as proof of the craziness.

I've seen the pics, and they are awesome! You guys rocked it for sure!
Thanks for hooking it up with the awesome steaks/whiskey/beer last night Jay and thanks to Nick for the ride home. Not sure if me and my bike would have made it back otherwise lol.

I wish I had pictures from the ride and not this hangover from the booze to show for last night. No regrets, the meal was worth it.

Nice ride guys. My garmin may be a little off on the distance (it tends to auto-pause at very slow speeds) but it shows our first climb was 2.33 miles with elevation gain of over 1200 ft - ave moving speed was about 3mph. I know you said this is normally a very easy climb but last night it was as hard as they come. Temp was 17 deg when we stopped for refreshments. Drive home was fine - snowy icy snowpacked highway 45 - 50 mph no problems at all thanks to Blizzaks. Glad I kept those on another week. Thanks again!
