Weekly Winter Green Mountain Wednesday Night Rides - (X-post from Passion)

As some of you know, we have been doing fairly regular winter Green Mountain Wednesday night rides each week, weather and conditions permitting. We usually ride at 6:30pm from the eastern-most parking lot off of Alameda (in Lakewood, Colorado), but we have started later on occasion.

I just made a Green Mountain Wednesday Night Ride Mail Contact List. If you regularly ride with us or want to join us, and want to be on it to be notified of our weekly Green Mountain night rides or any ride time changes, email me and I will add your address (or remove it).

The ride is on for tonight (02/25/04), ride time is 6:30pm.

Note: we will obviously have to move our night ride times back as it stays light longer.

    See you there,

    Dave

Are you riding in snow and mud? I pick my wife up in Golden every night after work and Green Mountain clearly had snow all over it..

Nope. Looking out the window at Green Mountain now, the rocky singletrack climb up the southeast side is dry. There will be a few areas on the decent down through the 4-way, but today they are more soft than muddy. And we play it by ear.

If you're looking at GM from Golden, you're probably looking at the snow on the north facing side.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Thanks for the good ride guys.

I'll see you in 2 weeks with tales of the spring fling.

In case you guys didn't find out about the chain suck issue here is a great site
    that details the problem.

    Have fun down there!

I think his freehub was nearly seized up, we pulled the cassette off and lubed it later, seemed much better, no more resitance to turn. I bet that was causing that noise. I usually pull the cassettes off my rear wheels and drop a few drops of lube down into the freehub body every 3 months or so or whenever I change a cassette and it's right there in front of me. Of course lots of winter rides and washings may make this necessary sooner.

    Cheers,

    Dave

    RE: tonight (Thursday 03/04)

Got a front blowing in around the metro now, so most are bailing on tonight. Personally, I don't mind riding in a snow shower. I will run by there at 6:15 to see if anyone shows, and if so, we'll play it by ear.

    Colorado, I love it!

    Regards,

    Dave

    Hey John,

Added your address to the list. I mail out trail conditions and the ride times on it. GM is cool at night. As far as "pre-season" goes, I ride nearly every day, so I guess I'm always in season. We have an informal group of about 12 that ride, usually getting about 3-5 riders a week this time of year, new riders joining us all the time. This last Wednesday, we rode for an hour and a half, trail conditions were perfect, and it was a blast. Some good climbs that still won't wipe you out, some interesting singletrack (I usually pass 30mph on a couple spots), a few steep descents to keep things interesting, and very little other trail traffic at night, and good view of the Denver metro from up there. We do a long loop around the place.

See you on a ride sometime,

    Dave

    Rode last night

If anyone's interested, was a decent laid-back ride last night on GM, the scattered rain showers missed us. Rode for 1.24 hours, averaged 5.7mph, 31.8mph max, for 8.07 miles. Saw a lot of others out there at times. Getting busier as it warms up. See you again next week.

    Cheers,

    Dave

I would be down for a ride soon (not this week but prob. the one after this one) so if you could please add me to your mailing list that would be great.

BTW: What light set up's are you guys running? Before I do this I need to buy a light, so any suggestions?

I'll do it, send me an email with your name so I can add it to my address book's GM Night Rider mail list, I have too many first names only in there now and can no longer tell them apart to keep track, thanks!

I use a Nightrider Blowtorch HID bar mount light, bright, white light and lasts 4 hours. It's overkill though, but I'm kinda like that sometimes...

See you on a future ride.
