    Walker Ranch

I hit Walker today and it was mostly very good. There was one area in the double track that was a little too muddy to ride, but for the most part it was nice and tacky. It should be really nice tomorrow.

By the way, that was my first time at Walker and I am not sure what to think. The exposure on the steps was a little much for me. OTOH, the views were spectacular.

I go CC and then turn around when I hit the portage. More miles, more climbing and better trail IMO.

I was told to go counterclockwise to be able to go down the steps. CC also allows you to have a downhill back to the parking lot.

As was mentioned in another thread recently, if you want a longer ride hitting the best of Walker in both directions, start at the TH off Pika/Bison Rds. Go counter clockwise to the normal TH, continue(down, up, down) to the top of the hike a bike, turnaround and go back the way you came. Ends up being 13-14 miles, you get all the good stuff in both directions, no hike a bike, and little rutted loose, crappy fireroad.

Walker was great today. A few small streams, but the bike was barely dirty at the end, and it was all firm enough to protect the trail. For the record, I went counter clockwise from the main trailhead, and although the portage is tough and the loose fire road is annoying, the overall ride was awesome.
