    Vail/Avon area?

I'm going to be up in the Vail/Avon area the weekend of may 24-27. Just a little weekend vacation to see my brother and his family, as well as bring my family along. I'm driving out from Las Vegas and plan on bringing my bike with me to possibly sneak out in the early mornings to shred some nice Colorado trails! I figured it was a little early in the season for the mountains to be open, so I'm looking for some good local trails!

    Things i'm looking for:
15-30mi max of riding. May bring my brother along too, so shorter may be in store as I don't believe he's that in shape.
I enjoy uphill climbs, so long as they give me an awesome downhill.
    Love technical.
I ride in the desert all the time, so trails with trees, trees, and more trees would be nice.

So Colorado, please tell me of any good local trails I can hit up while i'm there!

Unlikely much will be ready in the Vail/Beaver Creek area by then unless it gets really dry and warm really soon and it's supposed to rain and snow off and on till the weekend.

Try Eagle about 20~ miles down valley.

The Eagle Outside Festival is this weekend, which includes mountain bike races, and bike demos from quite a few manufacturers. There is no talk about bad trails there. I also see the weather has been nice in the last 2 weeks....some rain/snow, but seems like just enough to make the trails even better.

So....if I do head up to race there tomorrow, I'll come back and give an update.

Here is an awesome resource for trails in that area:

ECO Trails - Maps - Eagle County

Went to the Eagle Outside Festival and it's a complete hidden gem...we gotta get the word out!

Not to many technical trails, but going up Boneyard (or fire road) and coming down Ice Rink was fun. Also the World's Greatest downhill was fun!

That's an understatement if I ever heard it! It's a bit short, but holy crap.

I demoed a Santa Cruz Blur TRc on that trail during the festival, and it was, by far, the most fun I've ever had on a bike. I think it was a perfect storm for me...that bike was perfect for that type of riding.

I ended up not racing, because I wanted to check out as many of the surrounding trails as possible. I don't regret it.
