Trestle Bike Park opening day details

Here we go. Kicking off the 2012 season in record shape! You will tell your kids (or future ones) about this opening day, because it could be a while before we get another one like this.

Saturday, June 16 - Trestle Bike Park opens 7 days a week until Sept 23.

    Here’s what will be open.

Wait, its actually way easier to tell you what will be closed – Only the bottom section of Boot Camp. That’s it.

A few of the upper-most trails (above Sunspot) still have trees to clear but for all those looking to descend from the lifts… bring it.

Cruel and Unusual will open Saturday! Be one of the first in the world to ride this new expert-only trail. A preview of it will post on vitalMTB Friday with Nick Simcik – check it.

    What else to expect?

-Lower Beeall Ucanb got a facelift and a few new features. The bottom of the trail was lost due to the winter ski trail construction, so we made it better.
-The trail crew has raked and squared almost every lip and berm on this mountain. Slap them high-five when you see them out riding Saturday.

If you can make it up Friday to get your pass, Trestle Bike Park Shop is open Friday 9am-5pm. Avoid the crowd and get on the lift first thing Saturday AM…

See you in a few days!

    Brain-dump complete.

What ever happened/ when do you think we'll see those "two new trails near the base"? It'd be fun to sprint laps on gemini.

Two new trails under Gemini will start construction in the next week or two. It will include a Bear Arms rebuild as well. stay tuned.

Here are a few photos from different sections of Cruel and Unusual. 3 different sections... pictures from Beeall later today.

Opening day is going to be all time. For you experts out there you have to check out cruel and unusual, it will be a lengendary trail in no time. The trail crew at Trestle outdid themselves and are creating trails that are unbelievable. My hats off to their skill and dedication.
For those of you waiting for more trails under gemini, they are starting soon but the boys will be taking their time to do it right. Lots of maintenance and new additions in the works as well. I'll see everyone up here on the weekend and maybe a few beers and stories at Docs afterwards.

Looking forward to opening weekend. Curious to see how Trestle stacks up to my old east coast haunts... Mountain Creek, Platty, Highland...

Will there be any free days up in Steamboat w/ our Trestle season's?
Or will we be able to ride the Gondi there, but will have to buy a pass for the bike?

Beeall Ucanb improvements - New finish to Beeall since we lost the entire hillside to the ski run construction. These shots are walking down the trail from the 'old' step-down set-up for step-up.

Why does this thing look like it'll send you straight into and about 1/2 way up that tree on the other side?

I have to say I was disappointed in the preparations for opening weekend.

Only one person at the computer so people could pick up season passes on Sunday?? Really, wasted an hour, not the biggest deal in the world, but... efficiency is the key to a successful business.

The trails were riding ok, lots of fun. I like Cruel and Unusual, will be great when it gets worked in a little. Some of the other trails could use some love though, my GF would like to have seen all the loose rocks out of some of the easier trails (the blue ones)..

    Just some thoughts..

Props to WP and the trail crew

Yah so what the line was a bit long to get a season pass. And the trails were a bit dry.
But Trestle is better than ever. Hats off to Bob and the crew. The new Beall Ucanb is sweet. Love the big drop. Can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.

good job guys on the awesome opening weekend!

yeah, it was a bit of a drag that the place was so busy saturday morning that it took an hour to get our passes... but whatever, it was AWESOME to see the park mobbed by so many riders!!!!

i ripped off my rear mech sat, so i didn't get as many runs as i'd liked, but my son was stoked and hot-lapping all day sat and all morning on sunday. had to drag him off the hill early to go see Ministry... oh what a rough life!

It was nice. I showed up at 9 and got my season pass 3 minutes later.

I can't believe how dry it is already, last year was plywood across the boggy areas and soft, wet trails in many places. It was hardpack, dusty and slippery already. I hope for rain too...

I was out there Sunday playing around. How big are the mandatory gaps on Cruel and Unusual? Just curious. I've just started getting comfortable jumping and I'm having a lot of fun airing it out a bit on Rainmaker, Boulevard, Boot Camp, and Beall Ucanb. Big gaps still unnerve me a bit so just curious what to expect. Thanks.

there is really just one bigger gap, not sure how big, maybe 12 ft?

there is another smaller one that looks trickier as it is out of an uphill turn basically, guess you need to get a pedal stroke or two for that one..

Thanks for the feedback. We actually did have our season pass office ( in another building than Trestle Bike Shop) open Sunday 9-12:30pm. Sorry that info/message didn't reach you in line. Our bad. We learned some lessons this weekend that we will take into next summer for sure.

Trails got some use this past weekend , so we will be out looking for worked areas and giving them some love.

Thanks to all who came out and added to an amazing vibe! It is awesome to see some dirt flying out there again!

Seriously! Damn, we were in line behind a huge group of families, kids etc, you know, asking a million questions and there like 10 disgruntled season passes holders chomping at the bit to ride and no one told us that.. I even asked if there was a way to expedite the process, or if they could get another person up there (only one person was at the computer, even though there were two).

Trails were fun.. from a beginner perspective (the GF), she wished there was less "pebbly" stuff in the turns, kind of freaked her out, she hasn't quite accepted the idea of drifting but she will..

I know this is all for the gravity guys. But I was up there for the XC race Saturday and I had a blast. Really well run and I got to try out some of the trails on the way back down. It was kind of fun to run behind the down hill guys on a 29er XC hardtail and keep up. Well until I cased a gap jump. But all was good and I had a blast once I found Green world. I really can't wait to get up there and explore a little more. O yea and its really nice that I don't mind climbing do I don't have to wait in lift lines.

Surprised how many brake bumps there were already leads me to think they didn't have time to get all the trails prepped for opening day?
Stoked with the new additions though - the bottom of beallucanbe is siiiick. Once cruel and unusual gets ridden in its going to be amazing and the fact they're going to extend it is even better!
Cant win though, it's either too soggy from the snow melt or bone dry because there isn't any moisture, no rain in the forecast either.
Still think its funny they have the 2010 trail map on their website.
All in all - a solid start to the season and I hope people keep coming up to make it possible to keep it expanding.

Went up Sunday and it took about 10 minutes in line to get my season pass. Definitely glad I skipped opening day due to the pass lines.

I'll preface this by saying to all of you, Don't Get Old. I hurt my back on the very first run on Sunday. This was the first time on my DH bike since September and 10 minutes in I hurt myself. It's not like I crashed or did anything I didn't do a hundred times last year, but I went a little big on the first No Quarter drop and bam my back goes. I should have taken a few warm up laps on Long Trail, but I'm an idiot. I should have stretched and done more yoga this year, but I didn't. Lesson learned.

Now it's heating pads, ibuprofen, and the foam roller hoping I'm good to go this Friday. Fingers crossed.

Whats the trail you can see from the lower portion of Green World and Long Trail that has the easy wooden features (jumps)? I know I've ridden it, I think we even raced on it in the Trestle Enduro - but on Sunday I couldn't figure out how to get to it. It's not No Quarter, but its by that. Didn't see it on the map...

Lower No Quarter....go left after the "bridge drop" instead of right where you cross the road and link with lower Rainmaker.

what is going on guys, I am heading out there for a week of riding with some friends and the wife. She is a beginner to intermediate rider and last time we were there she loved green world, unfortunately it had just opened up and was pretty poorly marked. Have they fixed this, I know it links to some of the x-country trails and what not and I definitely don't want to end up on one of those hiking back up hill. TIA

Yeah, to my recollection it is pretty easy to follow Green World down now. And it's probably better packed, so should be even better than when you first rode it. Hoping to get my little girl out there to ride it this summer.

Mtn Goat is rideable, but from what I've heard WP isn't servicing that side of the hill any more. That means when you finish, you have a nice long pedal back to the village.

I was up in WP all week. Several nights it rained pretty hard for a bit, and it looked really ominous today as we were leaving about 1pm. The trails in the forest were really nice and tacky, would imagine the reort trails are getting some much needed moisture too.

Does anyone know the Wednesday Wheel Wars course for this week?

I emailed the competition center a couple of weeks ago, and they told me to keep checking the site...it's still not up, and the comp center is closed today.
