Traveling I-70 To Sisters! T.I.T.S. Night Ride!!

Ok, this will be a new one and am looking forward to it! Would really like to start as close to 6:00 as possible, for max riding time to stay within our one hour after sunset curfew. Have a loop in mind but have only ridden it once and not even all of it. So this is where you guys come in and suggest up the best route and or starting point that you like!! Thanks Amoeba may have some demos, Jay? I know i have two of yours but will let you offer them up. Otherwise i'll get them back to you.

Jen, if you want I'm sure i can talk Jay into letting me hang on to these for this ride

Forecast looks real nice, lets go ride shall we?!

oh, forgot we are back on for thursdays!!!! sweet!!

uhm.... park and prep at the didesse trail head area that is just above the lake --- it's the turn off before you hit the late exit. i'm pretty sure that is what you're referring to?

i'll just ride down and meet you all.

    clear as mud?

There's also the Whipple Tree, right on the way back outta Evergreen if you go the I-70 route, that would be my choice-slash-suggestion. It's more of a biker bar, after all!

Hopefully there will be someone to ride with me at the back of the pack. This will be my first TITS ride. Hard to say no to this one since it is 5 minutes from the house.

If you mean after dark, it's an hour after sunset, and PBR says we'll be out. We are law abiding citizens after all.

I am usually towards the back of the pack, and will be happy to oblige. If for some strange reason I am actually faster than you, we always regroup quite a few times throughout the ride. It will be good to meet you before the concert Sunday!

dang, this one sounded fun, too...

hate to conflict (inevitable), but this thursday is the first COMBA Social Ride, and the Board of Directors will be out to join everyone at Lair O the Bear.

(edit: wait a minute, PBR, aren't you on that committee??)

i suppose there'll be some other time to witness Jj making fools of all of you.

Sounds like fun and I've never been there...I'm in!

Not sure on the I-70 thing though, looking at a map it seems like from south Denver you could get there quicker off of 285 and parmalee gulch / myers gulch cutting through Pence? Is that a good way to go, or is Google Maps snowing me...?

A quicker way may be to continue on 285 and get off in Conifer. Then head south on 73 to Evergreen. I have never cut across Parmalee.

i think hitting 285 to parmalee (through indian hills), down onto the highway and into evergreen would be faster than going all the way up to conifer and dropping down...

Thanks jenamin, yeah, I have ridden part of parmalee many times hooking up Falcon to LOTB, nice up there...just been awhile since I stayed on the road thru Kittredge but I thought it was a better option. I can read maps but have no sense of direction so for me, getting confirmation is always good.

Maybe if anyone wants to go that route we could do the "meet at the fort" thing? PBR?

MGE, that ride up north would be more compelling if it was called "Dave's uber fun and beautiful ride, with beer"

    ok ok, sheeesh!

The I-70 part was for the acronym, get there however you want- I am personally driving through morrison and idledale we are starting at the Dedisse TH Turnoff before the lake exit if your heading south into town. So its north of the lake got it? got it? Meet at 6:00

If there are any strays that want to meet at the 3chicas parking lot (upper) We'll roll through there and pick you up on the way up evergreen mtn.- FT, traveling companion! and anybody else running late.......any of this make sense if in doubt be at the uppper lot ready to roll by 6:45. if your running later! and we'll rustle you up!

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1HEN5-aiTRI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1HEN5-aiTRI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

So shall we saddle up them ponies!!

by the way, if you haven't seen terror in tiny town, worth watching with uhmm maybe an adult beverage or two!

I'm not gonna spoil the fun, but there just might be a full moon over Buff Creek next week on thursday!

ps i'll bring some refreshments that come in a red white and blue can similar to my avatar!

It was GREAT to meet all of you, and to see some familiar faces!!!! What a total TREAT of a ride! Thanks for letting me tag along!! I had a blast!

HA! that was not a rest pace. my plan failed within the first 2.5 seconds. oh well. it was a TIRED pace tho! sheesh!

ok, i got a TON OF pix that i won't be able to post until later this afternoon/evening... and i got some GREAT VID!!! however, all the vid was somehow shot in "mini or small".... which really destroys the overall quality ... UGH! I'm SO bummed.... but, i'll put something together. AND, that just means we have to go out in the late evening again sometime --- the vid with the lights is SO sweeeeet!

hope everyone made it home safely last night!!!

    Thank you!!

It was another great Thursday night ride. Great seeing the regular faces and meeting the new faces. Was that canyonrat's truck in the parking lot? Anybody every here from him?

It was indeed canyonrats truck he ran into the other t.i.t.s. group and I believe he may have a sweet lead for you on the lights! But I will let him tell you! Uhmm, could be a large order!

Man! we are definately going to do that one again and do some variations, but that last bit of Dedisse back was sweet! just dark enough to click on the lights and oh so fun!! I am giving the sisters trail some nice tight switchbacks and whats up with that water bar/ rock?! managed to get the front wheel over and cleaned it but that is a tough one! no dabs !

Some were gonna hit beau Jo's but they were closed so hit the old stomping grounds Rib Crib for a nice Pork sandwich and some slaw!! mmmm

I think the appropriate response to a ride like that, and what you're supposed to post on forums is:
"those trails suck - don't anyone go there"!
    Good times all!
Just FYI everyone - a 29er tube works in a 26" tire. I don't know from personal experience, I just heard.

Nice to finally meet you Jeny (I feel like I already know you from all your and Ed's posts I like to see) - you too Joe, Wes, Chad, Chris (again).
Josh snuck off, but good to see you again.
Everyone else - see you soon.
    Til next time.
I may have pix later if any turned out.

That was great fun. It's always interesting putting faces with familiar names, I'm pretty sure I remember at least 3 of the 12 that were there.

Yeah, I managed to spin around the whole place without running into most of you guys. I was running about 5 min late and thought I had a pretty good shot of catching the group on the first climb, but... I flatted on the climb with a big sidewall cut and had to blow in CO2 and shake the Stan's around for awhile before it tentatively sealed. And before that, I saw this Jeffco cop in the parking lot so I asked him where the trail started. He commented about my lights...said he was looking for a few for their police mountain bikes. Scar, I got his business card and an email address I will PM you. Sorta funny, his card has a line for "offense" on the back, and he filled in "headlight"..

So I rode around the Sisters loop first (up the nasty stuff not down, oops), ended up in circles so I headed up that Muley trail to the north. Then doubled back down to do the Evergreen Mountain trail, where old ladies at the bottom I passed kept reminding me that "it's getting dark"... Ran into FT, TC and their friend Max on their way up where I stopped for a chow break on the climb, so got to roll up to the summit and chat with those guys for a few. Great ride but 80% solo so sorry I missed the group.

Yeah that would be us... ROR

TC and I rallied as fast as we could post-work but with her all the way in the tech center and not able to get out until 5 well yeah... about that! So our plan was to meet TITS Group A at the Barn TH of the Sisters, and we actually got there right at 6:20, plenty of time! As we were getting ready... new comer and irresponsible (one-year-past-being-a) teenager Max realized he had cannibalized his XC bike's chain to throw on his DH rig for last weekend's race.

A quick trip to Canyon Cycles fixed the issue and we rocked back to 3 Sisters. We hit the Silver Fox to Sisters Trail first, swung out Hidden Fawn for a fun loop, saw TITS Group A at the parking lot, up and over Ponderosa, then a quick out-n-back on Evergreen Mtn Trail West - the top half we rode with canyonrat as we caught up to him on his lunch break. Max had his first true "night ride" with the descent from Evergreen Mountain, I think he might be hooked!

Then like PBR said, we hit the Rib Crib for some tasty snacks and PBR in a CAN!
The older I get, the faster I was.

    Pix

well... the pix didn't turn out as good because i didn't put as much effort into the pix as i did the video. BUT, the camera was set wrong, so the video all recorded in SMALL mode... and i'm not sure i can salvage it.

    So... SORRY BOIIS!!!

Here are the pix.... and I'm working on the video stuff.

    <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/qDum4q5vc-n0XLAEhQVsyA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_xbrPQnc4LqQ/SiCGkQn53fI/AAAAAAAAFak/NJM7CIu9A_4/s800/IMG_7595.JPG" /></a>
    THE CREW!

Cbrock is wondering what he did to deserve this kind of brutal treatment. He's also wondering what happened to the "Ride Slow Plan". MgE thinks 'it's all just fun' and games.

    <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/yK3Pm8WTZStUjXWlrWDbvQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_xbrPQnc4LqQ/SiCGn1YY9oI/AAAAAAAAFas/NXtl1GzjfHI/s800/IMG_7604.JPG" /></a>
The Instigator (wait til I show you a vid of him TALKING ON THE PHONE in the middle of the ride...... yah.)

    <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ouqYmHRd06koyLb_WSl47A?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_xbrPQnc4LqQ/SiCGpqEtI5I/AAAAAAAAFaw/ErmGaEpItAQ/s800/IMG_7605.JPG" /></a>
S doesn't like cameras as much as he should. He avoided me all night.

    <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Mvuipud_aBEjplMGhipnAg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_xbrPQnc4LqQ/SiCGqadXBXI/AAAAAAAAFa0/qq0pracmMRY/s800/IMG_7610.JPG" /></a>

I don't think we worked Cbrock hard enough. And I think that's that rare-to-be-seen PODIUM GUY in the back ground!!!

    <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/SP1BNzF-KrsZJ3q4pUSopQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_xbrPQnc4LqQ/SiCOB1T4Q8I/AAAAAAAAFb8/-84tbsVMJCw/s800/IMG_7603.JPG" /></a>
We also had a rare Godzilla sighting....... and beating. Thank you sir, may we have another? cbrock is still wondering what he did to deserve it all.

    <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/XrL2V1hQLYMj-GhFd18YRA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_xbrPQnc4LqQ/SiCG20BrXfI/AAAAAAAAFbI/wrQR2VtpZXg/s800/IMG_7623.JPG" /></a>

    AAAAhhhhhhhhhhh.... rolling through BLISS.

Sorry ... I took all the action shots in video -- so you'll have to wait for that.... I hope I can salvage it.

Thanks for the fun night ride!!!

    Book em Dano

Really cool about your run in with the Jeffco Sherriff, canyonrat! Who knew they had a MTB patrol and where are they planning on using lights? Just been thinking.

Great pics everyone. Still smiling about this ride.

Have fun to anyone/everyone going to Lyons. My plans got canceled by the event coordinator. Now I know how Vince McMahon feels about the Nuggets!

Jealous! Looks like a great ride ... going to have to get out of work early one of these Thursdays to join in.

    Really cool pics from everyone.
