    Trail 411 Crested Butte

Heading that way over the 4th and have conflicting information about trail conditions, anyone have first hand knowledge of what I can expect and which trails are still closed.

    Thanks

Didn't see mention of Trail 411 on the ride report.

not sure if you're using the sarcasm font or not. i think the dude was looking for trail info (the four one one)...not info on trail #411.
    that is all.

Trail 411 is an actual trail. Star Trail... out by Reno Divide. So if he's just looking for general info he is confusing some of us.

I've ridden a number of 4xx trails in Crested Butte but just don't remember a Trail 411. And yes, I'm ignorant of the "411" usage meaning "beta" or "info". And this after my coffee has kicked in. I'm gonna blame it on the fact my pupils were dilated an hour ago at my eye doctor's and are still completely wide open. My monitor is blinding me.

BTW, the last time I rode up there the top of Schofield was blocked by what the locals call "The Plug" which keeps traffic from coming up from the other side (Marble?). IOW, less traffic on the pass road. If that takes an epic snow year I would imagine The Plug is good till it starts snowing again this year.

Star trail is WAY fun if it's the one near star pass! Only hit it once while coming from taylor pass (Aspen). Day before was dreaded pearl pass.

still a lot of snow/mud up on 411, some people are getting out and attempting it, but there are parts that aren't going to be fun. definitely won't be dry by the 4th if that is what you're asking. Although all this sunny/warm weather is helping to melt the snow pretty quickly. At my place on Mt. CB it's been getting close to 80 the past few days. The lower elevation trails that are open are super dry/dusty. We need a nice rain soon.

    Not what I expected

Didn't realize there is a trail 411, I was mostly looking for some beta on trail conditions, what is open and where I should avoid.

Yea "411" is one of those obscure rides accessed off of Reno road - FS759, out by mysterious lake.

as far as stuff to avoid...a lot of stuff near treeline is going to have snow/mud which means a lot of the popular rides ie. upper 401, 403, dyke, ect aren't going to be rideable yet.

    Sound good

Will hold you to it Shawn.

Did some further research and it does not look good for biking, camp ground we usually go to is closed until 7/12 because of snow, and it is at the beginning of Dyke Trail, guess I will find some riding near Gunnison

    Thanks Everyone

Why don't you go check it out and report back with the conditions Joe. That way the rest of us know for sure.

    JOEMTBR,

    As of 6.26.2011...

    CB Mtn Trails
    Upper Loop Trails
    Snodgrass
    Lupine Trail
Upper Lower Loop Trail to Budd Trail
    Strand Trails
    Deer Creek Trail

    are all open.

http://www.cbmba.org/ is the go to site for trail conditions. CS Irwin (beginning of Dyke Trail) reported something like 738" of snow this year!

I just got back from CB and all I can say is moondust! They need rain really bad! It's bizarre that the trails that are open are dry as a bone and the others are absolutely snowed in.

I can't believe how much snow Paradise Divide is holding!

There is plenty of free camping up washington gulch, slate river valley, and further up brush creek rd after the private property. There is free camping off of kebler pass too, but i'm not quite sure what is snowed in and what isn't up there since I haven't ridden up there in awhile. Also, there are pay campgrounds up cement creek, by Almont right on the river and also a nice one on the blue mesa res.

Let me know if you want to ride sometime when you are here, i'm always looking for new people to ride with.
