Tour De Fraser/ Winter Park(Fuggin Pic Heavy!)

This weekend it became another search for that new ride I had never done before. I'm sure many have ridden it, not so sure many have hit it in this combination or all at once. I called Guacamole and he was game for an all dayer so to the Park we go.

Straight outta the gate a 2100 ft climb begins our day

    Buck Creek

This brought us to some trestles

    Trestles

and some deep snow to cross, unfortunately Guacamole did not get the picture of me hitting one of these at 20 mph and flipping over the bars only to wedge myself up to my hips

Still some deep snow laying about

How do we get up there? Ah, there is a way

    Trestles

We got to the top and see Winter Park Resort off in the distance

    View of Winter Park Resort

and then we go down, down, down...Broken Thumb

    Broken Thumb

a few miles of dirt road and a connector bring us to the Idlewild Trails

    Whoops!

    Guacamole on the Whoops! Trail

Creek crossings always remind me of home

    Crossing Creeks in Idledale

    Teepee in Idledale

    a picturesque barn

    Winter Park Barn

a few miles of bike path and I see a KFC, who needs some potato wedges, I do!

    Wedges on the go

    onto the Fraser Pkwy

    Fraiser Parkway

a few connector trails and dirt roads brought us to the infamous Tipperary Creek

    Tipperary Creek

and eventually Flumes and Creekside then another road to the top of Zoom Trail

    Zoom Trail

a view of the Elk Meadows

    VIew of Elk Meadow

the idea is getting to be the same, a few more roads and trails bring us to the Sunken Bridge and eventually Elk Mountain where thunderstorms chased but never caught us

    The Sunken Bridge

Ice Hill, a fun little trail that lead us to Serenity and back to our vehicle some 9 and a half hours and 65 miles after we started our little adventure. I'm sure that time could've been a couple hours shorted but a little route finding required pulling the map no less then 20 times and that 15 minute nap beside the creek was delightful.

I love that area...have to go there in the next month. I remember the fist time up Tipperary- got caught in a freaking downpour that lasted over an hour. It was one cold ride after that, though still fun. That was before the beetles tore the place up. Great pictures!

That'll be the next ride in the area, along with Doe and Strawberry. Unfortunately my map didn't show all that and I learned about it later.

No Problem Dave. I have no idea how I missed your post on Doe/Strawberry but thanks for making me want to hit that stuff even more now. Guacamole must be getting to know me by now and that my adventures are not always the conventional kind. While we hit alot of great singletrack, there was a lot of old roadbed, fireroad, and quad track to through it all together. Surprisingly though, there wasn't any hike a bike on this route.

I hacked Guacamole's computer and stole what you should rightfully see, some more great pictures from our ride.

Nice ride MGE. We rode some of that same stuff today. Only got in about 58 miles though (on the tandem). We did not make it to the top of Corona pass (due to snow). Great trails, great weather.

Oh by the way, if anyone plans to ride WTB - DON'T. It is effed up! Major tree cutting and they have not cleared it. We hiked over downed trees for 15 minutes (not so fun with a 45 lb LONG bike).

I think I just decided that I like the descent on Tippery Creek better than Spruce Creek. We did them back to back today

Have you been to the twin trestles on the other side of the divide? Always worth seeing.

Did you find the connector to the Idlewild trails off of FS149, Rollins Pass Rd? Very cool trails back there.

We missed WTB due to running short on time. Glad we did.

Was thinking the same thing after descending Spruce Creek, Tipperary seemed like it would of been a better descent. Next time!

Anyway, I am curious. Did they give you any hassle riding bikes thru a drive through?
I once had someone refuse me service while I was on a bike... said it was illegal to serve you if you are not in a car. Anyone else ever have that issue?

Great post again, sorry for the interuption

Yeah, I've been turned down both on a bike and walking up to a drive through.

    Damned script kiddies!

Thanks MGE... Posting from my phone is kinda pain in the butt. Glad I delayed the trip for our "40 mile ride". Nothing to do now but sit around here in Ft. Worth and get fat(ter).

We actually went in to order and refilled our camelbaks. The drive-thru pic was actually as we were leaving
