Oh, this is a Buffalo Creek ride, starting at the ranger station , going up 543!
IF we leave the fort by 5:30, should be on bikes by 6:30 or shortly after! Last time up I think we had 16 folks!

And it is a fun time sorry, made the above post sound so serious!!

    Shall we ride bikes?

I can't make it up to Buffalo Creek unfortunately, I have to be out at DIA at 10. Are there any others that would be interested in riding Green Mtn at 6:00 on Thursday?

    Thanks!

Crap! I'm suppose to take FT to the airport! Oh wait AND I don't have a bike. Not sure the first ride on a singlespeed should be at buff creek! I'll get to work on seeing if I can get something else to ride and maybe I can just take FT to the airport really early

I might be able to make it. Depends how early I can get out of school without actually signing out early (and cutting into my vacation hours). If I do make it, I'd just meet you guys at the trailhead on 543 (I'm assuming). I gotta swing by my apartment and let my dog out before heading up 285.

I just asked The Toan® if he could take me to the aeropuerto on Thursday... you're offically off the hook for that. Go ride!

As for my "excuse" - I'm flying out Thursday night to the Great Cornfields of Indiana for the weekend to visit my Ma. I should be around next week though, I hear these rides are getting quite popular!

Right on Terry, maybe I can arrange a loaner from Scar, I will work on that tomorrow! Would be good to get you out on a t.i.t.s. ride I still have a 10watt halogen I'll have also. I believe scar will be a last minute show!

Kinda ironic that Terry would be the "mouth" making that statement, considering that he sure didn't have a problem asking me for help a couple weeks ago... How's that software working for ya, T?

My cygolite is a dualbeam with 6.5 watts per beam - I will have it with me if you (or anyone ) want to borrow it. The Amoebas (and almost everything else) completely flood it out. Better than nothing though.
Not sure how that compares to Lumens - googled it, but got too bored after about 2 sentences to really care too much.

    hey you guys

If your vehicle fuel tanks are running low, I thought I might let you know that there is cheep gasoline to be found in the Conifer area. Loaf and Jug by King Soopers is 1.52 and take off 10cents if you have the proper rewards on your Soopers card. If you don't have the soopers card I think the Bradley, just a bit further up by the old Safeway center is 1.48 or close to that.

Hope you have a good ride, you do know it snowed like crazy last night? There is about a foot of fluff over ice.

Cool, the snow will make landings softer. Are you riding with us, or just bringing beer for the parking lot before and after? Do you have a portable space heater?

    I want to ride

but pinball obligations have me tied up for a few more weeks, crucial bye round at stake tonight.

Space heaters and parking lots are lame, we go back to the hut.

Good luck with pinball, Mateo!! Hoping to ride with ya soon. Oh, and let me know when you want to rent that hut out to a poor biker - I'd live there happily! lol

Looking like I'm gonna be stuck working (again)... It has inspired me to write a song... like to hear it? Here it go:

    A bullet in my head
    A bullet in my head
    I wish someone would put
    A bullet in my head...

I'm still working on the lyrics, but I love the start so far...

    on second thought

i've decided to stay closer to home tonight... gonna head out here shortly for some local sunset action and will end up at GM in the dark since scar was kind enough to loan me a light.

too early in the season (for me) to make a BC trip worthwhile (what's that ratio of driving vs. riding?).

you all have fun... and watch for the glowing eyes watchin' you!

Great ride folks! Only took about 40 minutes for my left toe to regain feeling, I was a bit worried. I kinda like the challenge of rear brake only!

Hey guys, sorry to hold up the train leaving the Fort...I flipped thru the thread real quick yesterday getting ready and the second post saying "leaving the Fort by 5:30" caught my eye, instead of the "meet at 5:15."

If we weren't a tad late getting started though we would have missed 1-brake wonder Jon...dude you are awesome, if I would have showed with 1 brake I think it would have been "bye have a nice ride" and call it a mechanical. Plus you were right at the front most of the night on top of it so...just scarey is what that is. Nice job. Next time if you want to run one brake though, make it the front and go fixed rear.

And good times, all who showed...The stars were incredible, and the foot of fresh powder over ice on the trails were perfect conditions. BBD we missed you, AND YOUR LITTLE DOG, TOO!

These rides haven't been too good to Jon's bike... First he blows up his rear derailleur and becomes a singlespeed. Now he loses a front brake? Next time I make it for a ride, the Sheep is gonna be a unicycle. The sad part is that Jon will STILL drop me like a bad habit... ugh. Oh well, I bet I can post him up all day long on a basketball court (and that goes for BBD and his little dog, too)!!!

rungmonkey - trails were in great shape, except 2 patches of ice hidden nicely around corners on downhills - careful!

    Great ride last night fellas...
Next time I train for the ride. Thanks to Andy for keeping me company in the back there.
Here is the GPS data for last nights ride
    http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/7700339
for the other 9 guys on the ride you can multiply speed by 2 - 2.5 and divide heart rate by 2 for their actuals. Not a bad ride for Feb!
Thanks again to everyone and we'll see you out in a couple more weeks.

Wrist if fine, just tweaked it a bit on that fall before that last section of ice. Hurt a bit this morning, but haven't felt any pain since. I work with my hands, so I probably should be more careful.
    Cheers!

Hah. I don't go near the basketball court, it's ugly. It was a lot of frustration actually getting to buffalo creek, and I nearly missed the group leaving. Luckily they waited at the trailhead, but as I pulled out my bike from the car I noticed the pads in the front caliper were loose. The pads were so worn that that the little spring/clip that keeps the pads up against the pistons had become tweaked. I could have probably bent it back, but the group was waiting for me. I said, fek it, pulled the pads out and made a conscious effort not to touch the front brake unless I wanted piston up against rotor. I did grab the brake twice early on, but not enough to push the pistons too far out of the bore. High speed corners were SKETCHY!

indeed, i was mesmerized by the slight crescent moon and bright venus in an otherwise totally clear sky over green mountain!

scar, thanks for the loaner... no wonder your lights are such a hit w/ this crüe; very impressive. put my old niterider to shame.

anyway, sorry i bailed on the road trip, but had a good solo ride on the hill. saw a few other nocturnal beings pedaling around, but thought twice about shouting out "TITS??" for fear of reprisal (or arrest).

    next time perhaps.

I wouldn't think there is much snow at BC. I live in Evergreen and there isn't hardly any on the ground. It did just snow here for about 30 minutes but now the sun is out again.

Not snowy. Just two short sections of slick ice, one of which required walking/sliding across.

Hey steve, your gps showed +2917' that is about 900' more than i had on the suunto. I always thought that loop was about 2000 to 2100? Did you sneek off and do another climb? Maybe my watch was off.

    Andy where's those pics?!

    Gps

Uh yeah, that's why I was riding so slow at the back, I was doing some intervals on the climbs ha ha ha
No really, i'm not sure why they'd be that far off. The Garmin is the old one so we can average the two and make it still a great night for Feb.

Great ride. My GPS was showing around 2000 ft of climbing. But we did it about 20 minutes faster than last time. Not much waiting around last night and the group stayed together pretty much.

andy - were you more concerned about running out of gas in BC, or the engine giving out? Nice pics, by the way.

lubes - Is your airbag light for the passenger side? My jeep has a light come on when I place something in the passenger seat that is too light to activate the airbag - I think it is a safety feature for if you have babies in that seat (so the bag won't blow up in their face). Put my fat arse in the seat and the airbag is active and the light goes off... Just checking...

no idea.makes no diff if the passenger seat is empty or not. Used to light 10sec after starting, then go off. Now it's just another illumination to keep me entertained when driving.

That check engine light will come on and stay off for a week, it's my 02 censor. That or my catyllitic converter needs to be replaced. I was more worried about the gas. But we made it to kings valley $1.55/ gl. Hey at least I was wearing my glasses!

Nice pics Andy! Maybe some day Mateo will come along or ED and bring a real camera and do those moon shots and stars some justice.

    Yes.
J/K - we discussed the sitch-ee-ayshun, and decided check engine lights comes on a lot of times just to make money for garages! And the gas, I'm sure some kind-hearted mtn biker would have pulled over to help! We made sure we weren't the last ones outta there!
