Sun 2 Dec EPIC Colorado Springs ride
I've got a great ride idea! This Sunday (2 December) its supposed to be in the upper 60s F here in Colorado Springs. So, I'm hoping to get together as many folks as possible to do a big loop with tons of great singletrack at pretty high altitude. I'm picturing a few groups anywhere from social pace on the basic loop to folks who want to add lots and work hard. The main idea is to go up and ride Forester Trail (awesome singletrack up above 3000m/10,000ft). The most basic version of the loop will be almost 40mi with over 5000ft of climbing. I plan to do lots more and am hoping to set up groups in between the 2 extremes as well. I can promise great singletrack and riding higher than you've most likely every ridden w/o snow in December. We're also planning to BBQ (bring whatever you want to grill and your drinks) at my place after as I live about 3 blocks from the start/finish. So, who's interested?

I may be interested, but not sure if I'm ready to do 40 miles (or even 30 for that matter) as I'm new to the area. What time are you thinking? Where is Forester Trail? Is this mostly downhill?

The ride is a loop, so equal up and down, unless you find someone to shuttle you up. Forester Trail goes from Frosty's Park to Jone's Park up in upper N. Cheyenne Canon. If we get enough folks (and locals) there will be lots of ways to make the ride easier, but the jewel of this ride will be Forester which is at the top of the loop.

What time are you thinking of starting? How long will it take? I have some things going on Sunday morning and night. I want to make sure I can do it.

I would love to rock the Inflexibles shirt Sunday but I don't think I can get away for that long.

That's a tough one to answer. The most basic version of this route can easily be done in under 4 hrs, but that's no breaks and riding steady tempo which I'm guessing the group going this route won't be doing (more social in nature). Perhaps others can chime in on better guesstimates of total time to ride from Stratton up to Forester and back.

I would call a normal person pace in the 5 hour range with a snack break and a beer break when needed as well. Takes longer if you stop to take in the sights but 5 ish hours going down jones is about right in my mind you can shave a bit of time going down pipeline.

So I realize most of the inflexables just did a shuttle....but is anyone interested in shuttling to the camp grounds and meeting the group at the beginning of Pipeline/Jones? I am a big ***** and don't care to ride Gold Camp/ Old Stage all the way up.

I'm up for this, if enough other are in as well. I haven't done a 20+ mile ride since September, so 40 miles seems a bit much for me. 30 is doable though.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to make this one. Too much going on Sunday. I do plan on riding Saturday morning if anyone wants to join me. I'm thinking Falcon at 10 am.

Not sure about the HAB, I plan on riding the longer way around then the HAB way we went last time. Sounds like you could have beer and a ride I know what I would do. I dont like crowds so I would pick riding to 10k feet in december!!!

I could bring a few extra people? Or I may just bust out the old two niner and ride there.......hmmmmm...Oh yeah, I will not be in the kip speed zone (going up) either, if I do.
