    Stolen Surly Krampus

Be on the lookout for a stolen Surly Krampus with a carbon lefty fork, XT build, 1x10 with XX1 cranks, lime green rim strips and green/lime green Jpaks frame bag and accessories. Stolen tonight between 6:15-6:45 in the parking lot of Ironworks Brewery in Lakewood. I can't post pics from my phone but I've posted it on the forums in the past.

    WOW!
    Crazy.
This has been a meeting place for years for TITS, after the original meeting place (Rooney trailhead) was deemed unsafe due to too many car break-ins.
I am sure you mentioned it to Mike, but if not - be sure you do, I bet he would want to stringem up just as much as you...

Damn, what is going on lately?

Sorry man, that is truly fscked up.

We just had a rash of thefts in Salida. I have actually started locking my house when I leave, and even when I'm home during the night! I know people here who lost their house keys years ago and never bothered to get any new ones.

Hope you get it back, and it hasn't been fscked with too much.

Grab and go. The Thule Raceway Platform has a design flaw where if you REALLY want to get the bike off there you can force the lock open just by pushing on it really hard. I suppose I'll be sending them a letter next. Maybe they'll help with the $1000 deductible.

One lock is never enough and never trust the cheap locks on a bike rack. Any of them will open with a screwdriver and some torque. Use a quality cable and small u-lock through the frame of the bike and support rails of the rack; better, a point on the car frame.

Personally, I keep my bikes in the vehicle, locked together and to an anchor in the vehicle.

    Stolen Surly Krampus

Maybe it was the Extreme Makeover: Bike Edition crew? They're giving it a paint job and swapping in some black components and will have it back to you in 72 hours.

Maybe the Green lantern stole it - looks like something he would ride.

That first pic is really creeping me out - goat devil man thing. Hirsh sorry for your loss, I would imagine the thief or thieves are going to part that thing out as it is quite unique.

edit: goat devil man thing is krampus the christmas devil the arch nemesis of santa claus who scares kids into being good. Being raised catholic you would have thought I would know that - catholics love to scare the **** out of you as a kid.

What's the way to handle this? Call the cops and have them meet me there?

Put in a super high bid to make sure you are the winning bidder. His listing has local pick up available so after the auction set up local pick up and offer to pay cash then show up with the cops.

good luck hope you bust this SOB.

The seller is a pawn shop. The thief is long gone.
You need to go ahead and email the Ebay IMHO before he sells it to someone.

^ True, end the chain of events now before an unsuspecting buyer gets hosed.
BTW- Pawn shops must keep sales / acquisition records.

Cops are contacted, they've had the serial number and description since it was stolen almost exactly a year ago (368 days if you want to be anal about it). Emailed photos of the bike to a Sgt. Harper with the Lakewood PD, and the seller confirmed that they're a pawn shop and sent me the address. Hopefully this is the easiest thing he has to do all day.

I agree with UncleTrail, the thief is long gone, although since it's a felony dollar amount it's possible something will happen. More likely he'll get busted for something else stupid and this will be waiting for him on his rap sheet since hopefully the pawn shop has his info. And the Pawn shop will eat the cost and maybe learn a lesson about checking the ****ing stolen bike database before they take nice bikes off of crack heads.

Calling the insurance company now. Since I got paid out it's Allstate's bike now. We'll see what they say. To their credit, they were super responsive and gave me a fair settlement, after deductible.

I'd go ahead and call the police as well as emailing eBay. Glad that you should be getting your bike back. And the thief or whoever he fenced it to should be caught also, I think you need a photo id to pawn something so they should have a record.

Let us know how it turns out.

    Goddammit.

Here's a wrinkle. The SN is NOT my SN.

Called Salvagetti where I bought it, and they confirmed the SN they have on file for me, but I read them the SN the Sargent gave me and they said they sold that frame too! So now I don't know whose bike that is. That's definitely my build kit on there, but did they swap the frame? Even the scratches on the top and the way 'Krampus' is half worn away on the drive side are precisely like mine.

Now I'm thinking Salv swapped frames when they were building it up and didn't update their records, so the serial number I was using (I never verified it on my frame, I just emailed the shop and asked them for it) isn't the right one. Dammit! I'm certain that's my bike!

Salvagetti is looking into the owner of that frame now, I might call them back in 15 and see whose that wound up being.

Should be a hold on the bike now until we get this sorted out. I'm going to go dark until this gets resolved. Probably shouldn't be talking about an active case.

super cool this is working out for you, have a friend whos stolen bike showed up a year later in a pawn shop just the stripped down frame

I would suggest not getting into details on the internet at this time, not really smart for alot of reasons, do a full story after the fact, but this is coming from a guy lies all day everyday on the internet

neat tip of the week photo all your bike serial numbers works real well
