Stolen bicycle recovered after Craigslist sting

    Good news.

A $5,000 Cannondale bicycle with custom parts that was reported stolen from a Colorado Springs man's open garage on Feb.1 was recovered Monday after the owner found it listed for sale on Craigslist, police said.

Colorado Springs police said the man found an ad with pictures of his bicycle that had been posted 12 hours after he reported the burglary.

After notifying investigators, Colorado Springs detectives and Monument police set up a meeting with the Craiglist sellers at a Safeway grocery store at 624 W. Highway 105 in Monument.

During the meeting, investigators were able to confirm that they had the right bicycle after checking serial numbers and identifying custom, upgraded parts on the bicycle.

Police said they arrested the alleged sellers, William Fortune, 20, and Tyler Fraser, 22.

According to police, Fortune confessed to taking the bike, and asked Fraser to help him sell it for $2,000 on Craigslist.

Fortune, who was carrying a handgun when he was taken into custody, was arrested on suspicion of second degree burglary, theft, and unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon.

Glad the cops got involved. With the scum carrying a gun, you have to wonder what would have happened if the victim had just showed up by himself and confronted the perp.

I wish more thieves were dumb enough to post an ad for a unique bike on Craig's list 12 hours after stealing it. It almost makes it too easy.

Anyway, I'm glad they got busted and the guy will get his bike back (eventually). It strikes me as a little sad too, some kids stealing bikes, packing heat, obviously not too bright. What a frikin shame and waste.

They stopped being kids when they turned 18. These two idiots don't deserve any pity or sympathy. Ridicule, though, is perfectly acceptable.
