Steamboat mountain Lyons CO
Anybody know what the deal is with the land around and on top of steamboat mountain in Lyons? From what I understand from the signage around it is OPEN open space with bird closures.
What a killer mtn bike ride it could be.....I bet there's some rock climbing up there too...nothing stellar but if you're a local....
Unfortunately, there is no public access to Steamboat mountain, even though the mountain itself is located on Boulder County Open Space. Access to Steamboat Mountain requires that private land be traversed, and thus permission must be obtained from a landowner whose land adjoins Open Space to gain access (legally). There is not much at the top of the mountain anyway, and it would hardly a "great ride." The mountain has been ravaged by quarrying, and has numerous big and small piles of quarried rock, pits, trash, and old cars and jeeps scattered along its length and breadth. The views of the surrounding countryside are nice, though.
What tundraline says. If you know someone, it's a good hike. Used to be private until 8 or 9 years ago when BoCo bought it. Good views but hardly a good ride. It'd be like driving up Sunshine Canyon to ride the so so 1 mile loop at Bald Mountain Open Space.
