    Springs weekend ride

Since I missed our weekly 'night' ride I need to get out for a weekend ride. I know some others wanted to ride this weekend too so I figured to make it easier I'd start a new thread.

I know we were planning on riding Red Rocks but this weekend it will probably be crowded and we'd need Jay to take us on the route he described anyway. So where do you want to ride? I don't really care, I'll ride anywhere.

It looks like Sunday will work best for me but could possibly do Saturday if that works out better for everyone else. So where/when do you guys want to ride?

I have never ridden Jones or 666 so that would be fun. Monument is always a good time too. My car only has 2 racks up top so I can't really help much with shutling. The trail should be in nice shape though.

Yeah some shuttle logistics to workout, a super fun route tho haven't done it yet this season, 6k of descending with I think around 2k climbing.

Yeah, if we can start at 9:00AM, I am probably in for this as well--gotta check with the boss though.

So the plan as I understand it so far is to vehicle assist point-to-point (just to be clear, there is a lot of climbing on this route so I don't want to confuse it with a "shuttle").

I'd say to meet at Rudy's at 9:00, but it's not cool to take their parking spaces all day. What about the 31st Street trailhead of Red Rocks Open Space just south of Rudy's?

Where is the Ghetto trailer when you need it?

The Sequoia can hold 6-7 depending on bikes and rack availability. I have a 3 bike hitch rack (dependent on bike design) and can put 4 bikes on racks on the roof.

If we only had a designated driver or two...

We could also start further up

I'll bring an old blanket so we can do shuttle monkey style with bikes on rcjonessnp175's tailgate. Fair warning though rcjones: the road we are going up is a 4x4 road. It's nothing that an F-150 4x4 will have any problems with, but since it is a rental car just wanted to throw that out.

I think we should be able to fit everyone in so far between the two trucks, so we would just need one more 4x4 to drive the drivers back up.

I have been wanting to do this ride for a long time now, but are you guys going to do it Sat or Sun? Sun dosent work for me since I have to work that day. My xterra can shuttle back up to the start but can only hold 2 bikes so no bike shuttle.

So it looks like we have 9 total people so far which is still doable between the Sequoia and the F-150, but we need one more 4x4 to haul the drivers back up to their cars. Alternatively, we could drive to the camp ground and ride from there, but that will add an additional ~500 feet of climbing.

In summary: it looks like 9 people total if I'm counting correctly. We should still good on fitting everyone in the Sequoia and the f-150. Short Bus can drive the two original drivers back up to the trailhead so we don't need to do the climb from the camp ground. I think we're almost at capacity for the ride though unless someone else has a 4x4.

    Meet at:
31st Street Trailhead for Red Rocks Open Space south of Rudy's BBQ (not the trailhead off of Hwy 24 near the freeride park) at 9:00am on Sunday.

Please bring (mostly common sense stuff):
    Beer
    $ for the driver's gas
any tie downs you have laying around (might be helpful for the F-150)
    Rain gear

So are we talking Mt Baldy too or start at Jones dh?

If were doing Jones down then we could park off Gold camp at the jeep rd and ride up, then any veh could be used to retrieve shuttle veh's(I volunteer for this if so). If we drive up to Jones trailhead or Mt baldy I don't have a veh for that.

Take i-25 north till monument exit, hang a left and follow that straight all the way threw the "old down town" of monument and then hang a left when the road comes to a dead end "T" follow that down a short bit and take a left on mt herman road (acrossed the street from a park) then follow that up and you will see a mt herman trail head sign on you left hand side at the corner of nursery and mt herman road. Im in a silver subaru and the other rider will be in a xttera . Hope to see ya there.

Hope you guys have a great ride tomorrow. I just rode palmer tonight and the dirt was perfect from the rain that past through earlier. I wanted to join in on this ride but will be at WP all next weekend so I need to stay home tomorrow and get the DH rig all tuned up. Post some pics after the ride.

That was an awesome ride guys, and damn I am tired.

When we went to pic up Jones's truck that was left up top it started hailing on us, hard. Then when we got towards the top we discovered that a boulder had fallen in the road. So we had to hike up to get his truck then stack up rocks around the boulder so he could drive over it! Jones's brings a wealth of four-wheeling knowledge cause otherwise we'd probably still be up there.

6k of downhill, then getting to go offroading.
    EPIC

Serious props to Jonesy, Keith, Kurt, Joe and especially Julie for recovery of the shuttle vehicles. From a ride standpoint, the day couldn't have been any better (well, minus Kurt's finger and Arin's toe). I'm just glad that the vehicle recovery wasn't any worse!

The "shuttle" vehicle took a wrong turn on the way back down and went down a SERIOUS 4WD trail. It turned around and got a flat tire on the way back up. Joe and I spend a fair amount of time trying to get the thing jacked up enough to change the tire and ended up "3 wheeling" it up the hill to a flatter area to change the tire. I am amazed at what the driver was able to navigate as this trail was really in Jeep territory!

All is good now and the finger went back together and is not broken...

    Excellent ride though!...

Sounds like I guessed right about where the truck ended up being.
Glad all drivers and trucks made it back out, I was loadingup to head back up that way with removal of rock tools and a cone along to try to move a boulder when I got a call from shortbus saying they made it out. Was a great ride, well other then me crash 30 seconds into the ride which seems to almost be my norm. Did any of the pics turn out from yesterday?

What an amazing ride! I feel really lucky to have gone on this one.

Lol, hey that dude's trying to steal my moves. Although he doesn't have enough practice, it's more chest and less face. He's also not still clipped in upon impact!

How did your video turn out? Were you behind me on my wreck? It would be cool to see that on video.

Unfortunately, during most of the steeps of the upper foresty section I was in hike-a-bike mode. Just found the footage I took during that part, the camera is pointed to the sky during the fall/recovery/water bottle retrieval. Kinda sucks, had to make sure you were OK though

Got lots of other footage that turned out though, PM me if interested!

We never take pictures on our rides so this is cool being able to see some people in action.
