    Springs 'Night' Ride 7/6/11

I'm itching to ride since I missed last week. I'm throwing Red Rocks out there as a destination but someone else would have to lead. Probably can't ride anything in the canyon since all this is going on..

Thursday it is then. Red Rocks? Is Jay in? We need a tour guide

I worked some more on my trail Sunday and then Paul and I put in some time yesterday. It's about 200 feet long and has a first little jump (although you need to be climbing pretty quick to get any air).

    +1

Although I don't know if I should do any jumping.. I found a tiny dent in my non drive side chainstay. It actually likes like my crankarm flexed enough to ding my frame. I don't remember anything happening in Monument that would have caused that but who knows. Guess my bike upgrade is coming sooner than planned..

Since we really didn't discuss a meeting place or time, let's meet at Rudy's BBQ on Hwy 24 and 31st St. at 6:00 on Thursday 7/7/11.

Yeah, that works for me. Ride the Fruita trail up to Intemann, and then do an out and back and head back into Red Rocks? I haven't ridden Intemann in years.

There are a couple different ways to connect the inteman. There is a way to include it in our normal route for the most part. Above the first Round up section turn left on the wide path and climb to the connector at the top of the Park. Ride the connector then turn right (north) on inteman and ride for a mile or two (this is a rough section of the inteman) Later there is another connector with a rippin descent back into the park then connect to the rest of the normal route from there.

Yes, this is an evening ride at 6:00pm and lights will not be necessary.

Jay, that sounds great. I'm up for anything although I'm going to bring the Unit so my technical climbing is going to suck.

    Rain!!!

    Trails gonna be nice.

    Hey Jones,

Just come out and ride, the altitude won't be a huge issue unless your worried about travel lag. This park is lower and a great place to ride, hope to see you.

We may need a backup plan in case of rain. I'm not sure if that's Section 16 again, or heading to CJs (or maybe it's have the BBQ first and wait for the storms to end if today is like yesterday). Regardless, let's still plan on Rudy's as a meeting point.

Sounds like a good plan. Worst case we get to hang out and eat bbq in our bike clothes. I figure with my luck it will look great out all day and dump around 5 or so. Hopefully it will be like yesterday and rain around 2 and be done quick. Hmm, where is that fingers crossed smilie..

    To rcjonessnp175:
We're meeting at Rudy's BBQ which is at the corner of Cimarron (Hwy 24 West) and 31st Street. Drive to I-25, exit Cimarron (which is pretty much in the center of town north to south). Take a left from the off ramp and head west to the 4th stoplight--about 4 miles. You'll see Rudy's on that corner on the left--it looks like a gas station from the front.

    To the whole group:
Honestly, I think Red Rocks is out today with such a heavy rain. We'll have to decide what to ride. Options are Cap'n Jacks, Section 16, or.... we could do a vehicle assisted point-to-point going from the upper CJ's parking lot, up Buckhorn, down 666, up Palmer and down Section 16 and have the best of both worlds.

I was over by Red Rocks around 2pm and it was raining really hard. The radar shows more coming. I won't be pedaling over there; I got in a good ride this morning and am not feeling like being stuck in the rain. I'll throw something out there (pending She-Ra's approval); we can meet at my place for grilling and beverages. As some of you know I'm 2 blocks from Stratton and have a nice big patio. Whatever works out post up the final when/where.

We would have to work out logistics, but I think it's possible--provided someone is willing to babysit bikes while the drivers are driven back up to get their cars at the end of the ride. I don't think we have enough bike hauling capacity to get everyone and all bikes up twice.

If we end up riding something else, that's fine with me too.

This is probably a stupid question, but at some point is it considered not cool to ride the trails when too muddy, ie do we cause trail damage? I'm still in if it's okay to ride when the trails are wet.

The trails we ride while its wet is typically decomposed granite which drains very quickly, and actually gets better shortly after/during a rain storm.

There is a bike shop on the corner of 21st street and Hwy 24 (second stop light west of the Interstate) if you need sealant. Look for ProCycling on the left side of the road.
