Cool-blue Rhythm Springs night ride 2/27/13

    Can it be done?...
I thought about Red Rocks or Stratton OS. Palmer and Ute are probably gonna be a mess, and there's probably too much snow up in the canyon.
    Any ideas or beta?

    riding > snow shoeing

I am game for red rocks or stratton. stratton was ride able yesterday It is pretty packed down on the trails and half of the snow from yesterday got blown off the trails. We did not get as much snow down this way as you fellas up north.

I just got back from Ute and it has 1-2" in most places with some mud starting to develop in a few sunny spots. Right now it is that tiring snow that the wheels sink into. Probably would be awesome on a fatbike right now.

If you guys do go snow shoeing does anyone have an extra pair?

I could go for some more Epic Trail (and the other usual suspects at Stratton). My gut feel is that they would be in better condition than Red Rocks, but I haven't been south of Briargate so I'm not sure how snowy/muddy it is down there. I'm not against Red Rocks though if the trails are in good shape.

From what I recall, it sounds like we could have some more weather by the middle of next week...

    Well Stratton it is!
Cool, get to ride the proclaimed epic trail again. So lets meets at the parking lot at the bottom of the chutes at 6pm.
We'll definitely have to keep an eye out for the weather and make changes accordingly.

I will require a light. Don't think my PETZL Head lamp is going to cut it.

We should all get Klunkers for CMSP, Red Rocks and such. Talk about adding a new level to night riding with coaster brakes and rigid at night!!

I might make it. Don't have a light, but have a headlamp or two.

FWIW, Gold Camp has been pretty good since Thursday.

High Drive was a HOOT on Thursday in 5-7" of new fresh snow. A little tougher Friday, and is pretty bumpy now, with all the boot-steps.

Hope to see you guys out there.

Looks like I'm a maybe again... Yesterday my oldest was diagnosed with a double ear infection, sinus infection, and had early signs of an eye infection. Then my wife had another ovarian cyst rupture. If all the meds do their jobs I might be able to make it.

Im betting quite a bit. I still have around 6" (real inches not guy inches) in my front yard in the shaded spots. It has started snowing over here a small amount but nothing major. I plan on getting over there this afternoon to do a bit of recon on the conditions for tomorrow.

I'm most likely in, unless I get a last-minute client tomorrow. I have an extra light (2 extra if I can't go). Folks are welcome to park here to have a warm place to come back to for a beer after the ride.

Just got back home from recon tri to the top of the chutes and back. It is rideable, there was only a few times that I had to change my pants on the way back down the chutes. Bring your granny gear or big boy legs tomorrow, it is that work hard and go nowhere snow so my vote is dress warm, bring beer, have fun.

What do you southern folk have to say about the conditions this morning? Is it still going to be possible to do this ride?

For the record, I'm against trying to do Jacks--we can have plenty of fun riding our bikes in Stratton and I don't feel like pushing my bike through the snow on Jacks...

    Springs night ride 2/27/13

Hey, just got done with recon of Stratton and buck and jacks.

Stratton will be rideable obviously. Things I observed was uber mud which equals lots of trail damage. But when you guys are riding it will be über cold and frozen again. Noticed lots of ice especially in corners will make it fun lol.

Buck jacks well the trail from the parking lot leading to start of buck climb was a pain in ass. Buck is definitely lots and lots of hike a bike. Bottom of jacks looked like it was packed down really good from the huge amount of hiker traffic it's getting which is going to be a big pain this season. I think we need a couple more days of melt up top in order to climb with no problems.

Trails are crispy and icy so be safe have fun I'm Dropping out of this one.

I'm thinking of only riding Stratton at night from here on out. Flying down snow and ice covered trails you don't know with a only a light was good fun indeed.

I have a bday party to go to on Sunday. Might be able to do Saturday if anyone's interested.
I also made the mistake of buying the wrong size Poc helmet off of Chainlove. It's a small and never worn, any locals interested?

My plan, and this may be my eyes being bigger than my legs..., was to leave sometime between 6 and 7. Then I was thinking of doing a voodoo loop, and then take a break, and then play in the canyon for awhile or vice versa. I might even take both bikes.

Wednesdays night was a lot of fun, it was a rolling party!
I may be interested in a small POC, I need to size up my noggin.
I plan on riding Saturday morning locally before the mud. If anyone is interested I am up for riding anywhere locally to maximize my time.

Lots of reasons why I haven't posted a vid. Perhaps you guys may enjoy a unedited clip? Here is Gopro0008.mp4:

    I'll be riding both days. Probably GC/High Dr/etc. 1.5 - 2 hours.

We can meet at my place in Skyway if you like. PM or email. Not too early, ok?

Amazing we ride that fast on ice w/o studded tires, by the way what did you pick up on the trail HTRN, watched you pick it up last night.
Sunday is the only option for me, not sure about p town may just hang north depending on conditions

Thanks for posting the video, funny thing is that if you watch closely you can watch me "unclip" my right foot from my PLATFORM pedal!!! kick the heal out to get off pedals is some serious muscle memory if guess.
@Joe, I was picking up dances garage door opener that fell out of his pocket, kinda hard to get inside without waking the misses without it.

I was doing that too! haha. I tried to take my foot off 'normally' and still kicked my heal out. I guess that is a good thing since it is back to clipless for this weekend.

Just a heads up on trail conditions, pastajet posted an update, trails are clear in P-town with just a trace of snow. Looks like its gonna be a nice weekend down south.

Still trying to find my sequence to this whole editing/encoding thing. GoPro battery died on the climb back up so I only got that first descent and a bunch of climbing. This was originally shot in 720p 120fps--which was dumb in hindsight. I think that led to the premature battery death. I need to go out by myself and get the angle more dialed in, I feel like in 720p it is too low. I am considering going back to the much taller 960p.

The Youtube clip is still uploading and will probably be done around 2pm. At least I can embed before it is done.

Thanks for posting the ride video Chris. Looks like we were moving pretty fast through some of those snowy sections!

Hey bismirle what time you heading to pueblo? Kjbike was saying he's riding there around 1 or 2? But I was thinking earlier due to wind forecasts

I'm planning on getting there early and riding for as long as my legs let me. I am hoping to be riding around 7 and do an xc ride on voodoo and outer limits. Then refuel and go down some fun stuff in the canyon.
