    Springs Night (Evening?) Ride 3/12/14

By Wednesday it will be two weeks since I've ridden and boy am I ready for a ride! I'm kinda thinking Section 16 unless plans have already been formulated. What do you guys think?

Im game with that. We ran it last week, but in my eyes you can never have to many rides spent on section 16. There was mention today about trying to see how high we could get on st mary's then come back down. But I am pretty game for whatever.

I should be able to make this. Is this a Rudy's meetup, or caretaker's?

I didn't realize that you rode that last week (although I guess I should have--I did see the Strava from Thursday). I'm down for something else if you guys would rather not ride it again.

I'd bet most people would prefer to mix it up than to repeat. Although, I am tempt to go early and session the switchbacks before anyone showed up--like we mused about last week. I feel like we should have a dart board that we use to choose rides. Since I'm all out of darts here is a list of rides (naturally, some are too snow laden right now, but this list is for future posterity):

    Section 16/Red Rocks
    Palmer
University/Pulpit (aka Austin Bluffs Open Space)
    Cheyenne Mountain State Park
    Jacks/Stratton
    St. Mary's/Blue Columbine/Daniels Pass
    Pipeline/Seven Bridges
    Ute Valley
Falcon (as the late afternoon light of summer returns, we need to Inflexible this one)
    Rampart Reservoir (same as above)
Williams Canyon (fingers crossed for this summer)
    Monument
Pueblo Res (a late night sometime)
    The Tres Amigos!

How about the last one, The Tres Amigos? parking near Brian's house or at the Palmer stables.

I'll toss this option out there.. we could start from my house, hit up the 3 buddies, and then come back here and get a fire going out back. You guys could bring whatever you might want and toss it on my grill.

I like the concept, but if we get snow tomorrow night and it melts during the day on Wednesday, all three of the buddies might be muddy...

That's a long night ride. You looking at a 4hr ride. I like Brian's idea if we wanted to do just ute.

Yeah, that's true.. I don't think 4 hr ride plus getting up at 5am will go well together. We can watch the weather and either do Ute, or the two buddies and if it snows switch to Section 16.

I thought the 3 amigos (a perimeter loop in the 3 parks) was like a measley 20 mile ride? Jaydude or kman, care to clarify?

If you are super dead set on riding the three amigos, you could always leave early and then meet us meer mortals on the third amigo or section 16. I know I have zero interest in a high paced 20 miles after a day of work and getting up the next day at 5 am. But if that is what the GROUP chooses then more power to everyone. I always thought of the night ride as more of a social event, where people got together on bikes and had fun and rode slow, drank beer and would secession stuff. Not a blast out as many miles as we can and everyone try to set their PR's on strava.....at least that is the way its was started way back before I even started riding with the Original inflexibles. Maybe I'm just confused, or just need to go ride with those guys. (end rant)

I think we should stick to a normal size ride Wednesday and table the amigos until Sunday?

Sounds Bueno. I need to revisit Jay and Kristian's Strava ride, it has been months since I've looked at it.

Anyhow, Arin, that command post lever finally came in and I'll bring it Wednesday night. If u want to meet 20-30 early, we should be able to install it in the parking lot.

^this new thing shreds... but im slow, so i'm dependent on everyone going "social pace", beer breaks, flat fixes, and sessioning stops so i can keep up otherwise y'all are way too fast for me... can't wait to see what sorts of times you guys put down racing this summer

Since Section 16 was used to test out the new bikes last week is it fitting to toss Paul's new bike into the fire and send it/him down Section 16 tomorrow?

Cool, section 16 it shall be. I " think", hope that the more clay sections will be good to go by tomorrow. As of right now we have not gotten nearly as much wetness as up north..... So far. Is this a caretakers lot ride?

Chris, sweet new parts!! Shoot me a text and let me know how much moneys to bring. I will have the skrilla for those cables as well.

I MIGHT be ridding up from Rudy's then up sec. 16 to mess around on the switchbacks like we joked about last week. If any other fools want to do this, holler at me.

So I'm standing at the end of the switchbacks, right at the start of the infamous sec 16 straight away. Annnd it is an ice skating rink.

After last night's ride I can say that pushing my bike up the ice was sketchier than riding down it--who would have thought? Sorry to have pre-puckered anyone's butthole with my warnings. Stephanie's double loop with the crew and then Square-pusher with Tennubs were such cherries on top of a fun ride. Traction was at an all time high. And to anyone that hasn't ridden Palmer Trail in the "opposite" direction (is there really such a thing?), I highly recommend it. Mucho flow, plus all the historically off camber rights have lightly eroded into mini bermed hooks that help you keep momentum.

I only took a couple of pics last night, and they were on the push up sec 16 (I hiked up just so I could get a better look at some of the switchbacks and straights that make up the sec 16 descent and scout better lines).

    Recognize this straight?

    Springs Night (Evening?) Ride 3/12/14-20140312_172628.jpg

Always feels like you are skipping across the tops of vertically lain rocks, right? It is the remains of a weathered set of rock stairs. No longer employed as stairs, these rocks enjoy flat spotting rims Winter snow robs this pleasure from these b-otches. Short Bus followed me in to this section and saw my new line--far right of the stairs which sets you up perfectly for the awkward left at the bottom of this straight. Though, SB will attest, the far right of the stairs is heavily sloped, requiring a good measure of body-english to keep the tires stuck to the ground. Such a good trail with loads of nifty options if you have the patience to stop and look for them.

yeah, what a blast last night!!!

kinda crazy going back-and-forth between HERO DIRT HAUL ASS mode and HOLY **** THAT'S A HUGE PATCH OF ICE mode..... scary. glad we all got down safely, and lapping stephanie's was definitely the cherry on top

once it dries a bit more i'd be up for a scoping/sessioning ride on the switchbacks (hike UP s.16 from the stairs lot, practice some new lines like the one Chris pointed out)
