Springs Evening Ride 6/29/11 -- Palmer Trail Section 16

We're going to hit up Palmer Trail and Section 16 for this week's ride. We can either:
    1. Meet at the usual water tower trailhead and possibly hit Stephanie's trail afterward.
    2. Meet at Rudy's, ride up and then ride down into Red Rocks and finish with White Line and the hogback trail, followed by some slowly cooked hog at Rudy's.

    What do you think?

Turn that frown upside down and come join us on the ride UT!

And for the record we're always careful of hikers while descending. I take my family up there quite often and know what it's like to get buzzed.

That's it!!! I'm bringing my full face and armor just in case I see a hiker on the new stairs as I'm coming down. Then it's plow time. I just need some xc guy to see it and call me out as a A-hole one here afterwards. Any volunteers?

Since there don't seem to be any strong opinions either way, let's do the Rudy's route and meet there at 6:00. If I can get out of work early, I am going to head out as soon as I get there (hopefully 5:30) since I'll be on the slow bike. I'll see everyone when they catch me on High Drive.

Yea, someone really need to start burning in the lines around those steps. I suggest alternating sides to get a nice slalom feel through that section. I'm joking of course, every trail benefits from the addition of a tie garden.

    ROFL. Nice comeback.
Wish I could, but I take my son to Karate on Mon. & Wed. night and ride a spin bike while he's in class. Tuesday is T-ball... I'm going to catch up with you soon though.

Of course we're all joking about the stairs/hikers. It's the Internet.

It's always fun to climb Palmer trail (although High Dr. is going to suck worse than usual). So are you coming to ride or do we get trumped by the Transformers?

Downhill bike train on hiker infested stairs... I might show up for this. I wish I could find the hiker forum to see what they say.

The funny thing is that we aren't even going to hit those stairs unless I'm mistaken about where they are. We'll ride down Section 16 and then cut our way over to Red Rocks before ever seeing the stairs.

Hope to you can make it Josh--my sister was asking about you.

Just a reiteration: I am going to be at Rudy's at 5:30 and I'm going to head out as soon as I can get into my bike clothes since I'm on the heavy bike. I will head up 26th, Gold Camp, High Drive, and Palmer Trail.

I imagine you guys will catch me on High Dr or Palmer Trail, but if I'm way ahead, I'll wait at my usual beer spot on Section 16.

    Pic for UT

This pic is for you Uncle Trail!

As you can clearly see there is some user conflict caused by the new and improved steps, and man there are a bunch of them...

But other than this one incident a great time was had by all.

This particular hiker is definitely upset to see us!

    So the comment was made

The steps were made incorrectly, I corrected them and said they were made perfectly to stop bikes from going up. Who ever put them in knew how long the wheel base was on a bike and made it impossible to climb, don't know if that was there intention but it sure worked.

On the other hand they sure are fast and fun to go down, never needed to slow down.

Curious, is there a way to bypass that section and climb up to the trail another way

    Dam,
    Bikes are FUN
