...and someone posted this ridiculous deal:

    Fox Racing Shox 34 Talas 27.5" 150 CTD-Remote | Backcountry.com

I friggin' HATE Fox w/ a passion, but at this price...!!!

That's insane. I had to stare at that for a minute to grok that price. Then I had to stare at it longer to figure out what I could use one for. I guess if I had any interest whatsoever in switching my HDR over to 27.5 that'd be a no brainer buy.

Just so you know what you'll be getting into...

    Happy holidays you gear whores!

FYI, these are '13 MY. There are issues w/ the CTD cartridge and the crazy linear air spring curve. But IIRC, you can get this thing changed over to a Float and the CTD cartridge updated to the '14 for a pretty low price.

The only problem, and it's a major one, is the creaky CSU. I had a '12 MY 34 Float 140 29er that went back to Fox 4 times in two months before they gave up and sent me a new '14 fork. I don't know if the creaking resulted from their Kash coat being too slippery or what, but this TALAS isn't a Kash coat fork...so hoping no CSU issues.

And the 2012 Float translates to the 2013 Talas .. how?

From Dave Warner of Fox Customer Service:

...we could convert your Talas to a float for around $60 and it would be around another $65 for the 2014 internals upgrade. The offset is in the crown. The talas 5 cartridge is around $260 by itself.

So a Talas air spring is a heavy and complex POS until the '14 model, where they switched to using hydraulics vs the old air type. To convert to a Float, is just an air cap and a air piston assembly. BUT, you might want to look at the Push air cap w/ volume adjust "tokens" ala Rockshox.
The "2014 internal upgrade" refers to the '13 to '14 CTD cartridge upgrade...and I heard this is a must because the '13 is complete garbage.

Edit: the crown offset answer was related to another question.

I'm in driving distance of Push, so that would be my first stop anyway.

So bottom line, I can have a float for $260 net?

Still a win in my book.

You can have a '14 34 Float 150 CTD 650b for ~$325, w/ a CTD that works and no more worries about the Talas cart blowing up.

Also, I'm pretty sure you can just use some old fork elastomers to take up volume in the air chamber, held to the air piston w/ some Slick Honey and 20/50 motor oil for lube.

I have my '13 TALAS at Fox right now being upgraded to the '14. Yes, the '13 is garbage.

As for the deal, looks like they are sold out. What was the price?
