    snow cone?

Golden folks - any ideas on snow amounts at Centennial Cone? I'm thinking Sunday may be good there.

I have to run some errands and I'm thinking of hitting it for a quick scramble later today or tomorrow, I'll post afterwards. But if conditions around here are any indication, it should be all good, maybe some white stuff on the north facing stuff.

I rode yesterday up over 9,000 feet between Dumont and St. Mary's and there was very little snow left from the storm Sunday, just in the shade. But I hear there was actually more snow east of here -- ?

I could be down for a ride this afternoon - might be closer to 2ish, if you don't mind waiting on a slow singlespeed!

    Which lot?

Thinking of heading up there in about an hour....it should be fine up there. Actually just looked up Clear Creek and looks like there is some snow on north facing probably about 8,000 feet or so.

I may see y'all out there. I keep hearing about how the Mayhem Gulch climb is worth it, I may go start from 6 and hit that. Or I may get lazy and do my usual -- south lot out to the overlook, then back.

OK with weather this good, you guys ought to be riding both days. And spending neither of them at Centennial Cone. Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Be sure to give us a trail report. I may head to the Cone tomorrow based on what you find.

Road Chimney over to Apex; the Cone looked like it would be just fine.

I also recommend starting at the southern most parking area on hwy 6 and climbing up Mayhem Gulch. It gives you a nice long moderate grade climb for a warm up and a fun descent back to the car.
Only downside on the descent is that I feel the need to keep my speed down much of the time. Lots of blind turns, a loose sometimes slippery surface and a narrow trail cut into a steep mountainside. Sliding off the trail in a turn would be VERY bad in some places.

thanks for that TVC, you guilted me into riding after all...

funny thing is, i was actually on my way to dakota ridge and at the last minute turned west up 6th as i remembered that there was a trailhead i'd seen the last few times up the canyon... yeah, apparently i don't pay much attention 'round here, as i found myself at mayhem gulch and lo & behold eventually at centennial cone.

actually a super fun ride today; conditions are just about prime-- dry in the sun, tacky in the shade, w/ just a hint of snow/goo in a few northerly spots. even ran into JSD303 by coincidence at the north lot.

    pics in a bit.

Happy to help. But I promise my ride was more fun.

BTW, guess who just bought a quick release clamp? Yup.

Why this thing costs twenty five bucks I'll never know.

Or stylin', depending on your perspective. Very minimal soft spots out there. I went from the south lot to the overlook and back in 1:48. Not bad...

Golden Gate Canyon for Thursday? Think it's worth a try, or is that pushing it?
