    Snow...

...this morning on the high mountains above Nederland. Fall is here. Saw a few aspen leaves changing on my ride last night too.

At least the midday temps will drop some. No more 6am rides.

    hooray for fall riding

I love mtn biking in the Fall. It's like Spring Skiing- conditions are perfect and there's fewer crowds.

Mt. Evans had a little dusting too.

I don't know if it was just a bunch of hail or actual snow, but I saw some of the white stuff on Pikes about a week ago.

Time to put the fat tires on the Pugsley. Oh wait - this is Colorado. I might put em on and look for some loose sand...

    How awsome is this state!

Snow dusting in August! Fall is the best time to ride, cool crisp air, the changing colors and the snow reminds us of the ski season to come. Best part is there is no shoulder season to speak of. I'm psyched for both seasons!

Hooray for snow! I have personally witnessed snowfall in Colorado every month except for August. Too bad I wasn't there this morning and stuck in hot SLC instead. Anyone have pics??

    Last year

Here's basically the same first snow shot, but from last year. Shot this on August 28th last year...almost the same time...so I guess this is fairly normal for 13,000 feet. It was 36° at my house this morning.

The hell with winter..and snow for that matter. Winter is just too damn long! It would be nice to have summer actually last the whole 3 months. Whens this Global warming BS gonna kick in? so I don't have to shovel my driveway from Oct. to May

Alas, this is why most folks choose not to live at 5,000-plus feet above sea level next to one of the largest mountain ranges in the world. That's part of the deal of living in Colorado - a world class skiing location with great mountain biking.

    silverton

Funny how it looks like that pre-opening. I have yet to have a day there where the snow is even close to those conditions. They do have some nice steeps but it means nothing when your just dodging iced over bomb holes on hardpack. If I can find one uncrowded run on my own, its worth more to me than a day of booting at silverton.

Sadly, I'm pretty close to throwing in the towel at Silverton too. Unless they can get their $hit together. I've been twice and the lift situation is not good. That coupled with the forced guided trips during the best time of the year and a price that's starting to be not so attractive... I think I may give it another shot some time, though.

I think the idea of silverton sounds cool, but I think I'll be fine with my a-basin pass.

Yeah, I have been a handful of times over the years and had some fun times there but I save the money and hit up my friend in Jackson when I need to spend a week in the b/c. The terrain is the best I have ever ridden hands down and I get a free place to stay. Most of the locals up there can just straight kill it too, fun to ski with them and at least try to keep up.
