    Smoke above Boulder

I'm seeing smoke above Boulder. This is insane. I thought I saw lightening in that area.

Here's what I'm seeing from my office on Colfax near Golden. Sounds like there are pre-evacuation orders going out and lightening is the likely cause.

Yep. They already have a tanker on it. It started on Bison road.

These two photos were taken minutes apart.

This sucks. But I was laughing at the 'forum panic' as to who will be the first to post info about the new wildfires. Seems to be a competition.

I saw a huge lightning bolt hit that area as I went into the Louisville rec Center.

2 hours later and Eldorado Canyon is engulfed in orange smoke. It looks huge.

My wife tells me that Walker Ranch/Flagstaff hill went up in flames.

    This looks bad.

I heard on scanner that there is a fire in Big Elk Meadows. 9news seems to mention it too!

Damn! Just drove from Fed Center towards Golden. Lightning bolts peppering Clear Creek Canyon and back side of Lookout Mountain! There is a little bit of rain falling in CCC and here in Gldn, so hopefully nothing blazes up...

I'm listening to scanner radio about this fire...and just heard a call to help a mountain biker who hit his face while riding Betasso on Canyon Loop Trail! Ouch!

BTW, the cops are out getting people for gawking at the side of the road. Open space is closing the parks.

Was working in four mile canyon today, just getting my buddies house finished up from the previous fire (he moved back in two days ago) and we had seen some wicked dry lightning hitting everywhere, especially on flagstaff. . We joked about another fire and went inside for five minutes. When we came out, The smoke was erupting and just exploded (no surprise) into a massive plume. I headed up to gold hill and went to the Switzerland trail area and the views were spectacular. Wish I could upload what I got. When I got back to camp at Kelly Dahl,, there was a note on my camper that said to get what I need to get together, and be ready to go.. Exciting

great shot, and wow... that really sucks.

We were down in the N part of town last night & my son finally got to see the smoke first hand, and it really hit home with him how massive the problem is. Seeing the planes taking off & the sunset through the smoke it was pretty surreal.

From my office I'm watching what I believe is the fire moving down the East side of what I think is Green Mountain. The smoke looked to be much decreased this morning but is now back. I've only seen one tanker drop slurry, perhaps because resources are being devoted to Colorado Springs.

Beat me to it. I was about the post the same video. Its incredible stuff.

What gets me is when I first saw it it was in the early stage when it was producing the most smoke, which coincidentally enough was blowing downwind directly to me. This made it seem much more dramatic than later in the day.

Later on Tuesday I walked the dog up to Davidson Mesa to take another look. Apart from a few spots of orange on the ridge line it looked perfectly normal with not much smoke at all.

I guess the smoke is caused by the initial burning off the leaves and the release of any moisture in the ground/trees. Once this is gone, the burning of the remaining wood is a lot more smoke free.
