    The owl IS cool

I had one last year in the tree in front of my apartment too. It was near dark so I didn't get nearly as good of a picture as you did. I did get to see it fly away though. HUGE wingspan. You take good pictures.

Do you live in the Kings Ridge area? There's been a family of g.h. owls hanging out for a few months.

I ride by there on my daily work commute but this was by Twin Lakes in Gunbarrel. I have a seen an owl on the cottonwood trail once near there though.

I think i saw that same owl yesterday afternoon in the woods by the east Twin Lake, a few feet away from a big turtle lounging on a log.

That's one of them...and yep there are turtles about too. Eggs are usually layed near the bridge.

There are two adult owls and at least two baby owls. I can't get a good photo of the babies but here are more shots of the alleged parents from this morning. Each owl was perched about 50 yards apart.

Is there an expert who can tell gender from a photos? The only difference I notice is the dark "eyebrow" gap and apparently different lenght "horns" between the two.

    Awesome shots Rich.
I've got some great memories of lounging in Hot Creek outside of Mammoth Lakes, CA and checking out the sillouhette of a big owl on the same branch every night. Amazing birds, kickass predators.
