Route set for 2013 USA Pro Challenge

    From the Denver Post:

    2013 USA Pro Challenge

A day-by-day look at the route for 2013 USA Pro Challenge, which is Aug. 19-25:

Day 1: Aspen circuit race, which will be three 22-mile laps.

Day 2: Aspen to Breckenridge via Independence Pass and Hoosier Pass.

Day 3: Breckenridge to Steamboat Springs through Kremmling and Rabbit Ears Pass.

Day 4: Steamboat Springs to Beaver Creek is the Queen's Stage and will go over Bachelor Gulch as the new approach to Beaver Creek.

Day 5: Vail time trial, again going up Vail Pass like in 2011 and the old Coors Classics.

Day 6: Loveland to Fort Collins as the race will go out to Windsor then back and up the Big Thompson Canyon to Estes Park, then back down to Loveland and up Fort Collins via Horsetooth Reservoir.

Day 7: Denver circuit with up to eight laps through LoDo, City Park and around downtown with the traditional finish line near the state Capitol.

I was a big fan of the individual time trial finish to last year's race. Kinda sad to see it go. 17th Ave, with racers going both directions, roughly a minute apart, had non-stop cycling action.

I was hoping they'd spice up the finish at Breckenridge with the Moonstone loop. It's not long, but it has 10%+ sections. It should blow the peloton apart and the descent back to town isn't long enough to bring the bunch back together. Should be a good show.

It's too bad they're going with what looks to be a glorified crit for the last stage in Denver.
